hey guys!
Let me start by saying i am not a machinist, or one of the great laser builders of this millenium. :'( but my question is this. my neighbor is a machinist and he said he could build me an aluminum host. he says he can make it so the diode fits directlin in to the host w/out the aixiz module and he can tap the head for m9, 0.5 pitch for the optics.(ok thats not a question). but this is. Can i run my lead wires a couple inches to the driver or does the diode have to be directly soldered to the driver? :-?.

thanks
michael

Wires from driver to LD are no problem at all, go for it :)
Post the finished build though.

Hey guys thanks for the quick replies. one last question. will anodizing affect anything, either good or bad?

Hey thoughts, im sure you know anodizing is an electrocote process and delivers a small layer of the anodizing material. i guess my main concern would be about heat sinking.

I noticed that on the heat sink I got from Dark_Hores that was anodized there is no connection where the coating is I did a continuity test and it only made a connection where there was no coating.  Just keep this in mind if you plan on using the host a positive or negative for the laser. Make sure there is no coating where it makes contact to ensure a good connection.

Hope it works out

Anodized metal is non-conductive

thanks justin and dave. This good info. i was gonna use the frame as a conductor for the neg. i guess i still could just sand off the anodize thoug or small machine screw.
