I have a aquarius 5 blue laser pointer which i got from laserglow and when i turn the lights off in my room, i can see the beam but the color of the beam is very light and not solid blue..Is there something wrong with my laser ? I havent gone to a club yet to tested out where beams are more visible but could it be that the solid blue beam will be visible in other environments ? The blue dot is certainly visible and bright blue but the beam is very light..Any ideas or is this normal with the auarius ?

2 to 5 mw of 473 is not going to give you a very visible beam. You should be able to see the beam with smoke I would think. I don't own a 473 so I'm not real sure. With that low power I think the intentions of the manf. was to be able to see the dot on what your pointing at.

5mW doesn't produce visible beam. Try with smoke

Yes the dot is very bright except for the beam :-(...What would be the minimum mw in a blue laser pointer that i would need to be able to see the beam without smoke... for example i have a 5mw green laser pointer and the beam is very visible without smoke, so how many mw of a blue would match the visibility of my 5mw green laser ?

green is the most visible colour to the eye, hence the green lasers being most visible. i would guess a 30-50mw blue should be visible

I have the same laser except I ordered thru dragon laser so mine is Aurora BP 5mW. and yes I can see the beam, its dim but but visible at the right angle. The visibility does increase when you use fog/smoke and is quite a brilliant blue. I had laser beam visualizer spray for this purpose but ran out. going to solve this by getting a fog machine.

I have the Aquarius -10, and I also got an even brighter "Aquarius -5" straight from CNI for Pullbangdead in a CNI GB, these ones, that output 10-15 mW show the beam more clearly, but it lacks the intensity to make the color look vibrant at 15 mW. I also have a Viasho -5 that does 28 mW and still the beam color is only close to as noticable as a green 5 mW, but it is clearly blue. Our eyes lack of sensitivity sadly, to see beam colors well, that are not too near the yellow and green, (our eye's peak sensitivity wavelengths), that makes us need 5x to 8x as much mW to see the color in the beam as well.

BTW, the CNI GB "Aquaruis-5" (GLP-473nm-5 mW), was about $360 in the GB's Quite a savings for a well over 5 mW blue pen! -Glenn

I have a 100 mW 473nM labbie and the beam isn't as bright as a 30 mW green. The dot is nice however and works nice on my RGB......
