what the heck, guys! he asked a simple question, which wasnt asked before on lpf (with beer and a 8x) to my knowledge!

anyway: someone, forgot who, recently posted about his experiments with backreflections on 16x dvd diodes. it was about LOC vs LCC diodes. he killed at least two, instantly, with the 8% backreflection of plain clear glass. so i am sure you can kill a 8x diode instantly as well, if you try ;-)

When did I give misinformation??

I've already seen Igor, Bobhaha and others correct you on a few things. If you want, I'll go back and quote them all. You told one guy it was OK to use a high power green laser at his work without saying what safety precautions to use so he wouldnt hurt his clients or himself. Your recommendations are not thought out, and are just echoing others hard work and knowledge. Your posts contain "I think" and "maybe" when people are asking direct questions that need an educated answer. These are not toys, they are high power lasers. If you have a solid, educated answer than fine, other than that you can get someone hurt. So if you are going to act like a 4th grader, I will treat you like a 4th grader. If you want to snicker at me for being concerned about safety, then you truly are a child. If you think you are man enough to laugh in my face, I'll be happy to PM you my addy.

Bummer that your 8X led'd...

It seems that I have read somewhere that another 8X or two died near this current.

It could very well be that Dave got nice hearty diodes, and that 360mA's is pushing them too hard. Igor's test's will help us a lot. Then again, there does seem to be a fair number of builds in that range still alive per FrancoRob's compilation graph...

Was it a FlexDrive build?

It was a flexdrive build. v4 infact. I dont think it had as much to do with the drive current as it did with the reflection back into the pointer there though. Hallucynogenyc said he bounced his PHR beam off some beer and noted that the reflection had considerable power to it.

Probably was the reflection.

Bummer man...

Stop changing the subject...

He had never said what driver he had before that...

I read somewhere that someone build an 8X in a Kryton recently using a rkcstr. Which means that the driver will drop out of regulation very soon.

I don't think that this would cause any harm to the diode, but I wondered if it could have started surging up and dropping out. Anyway, now we know that it was a FlexDrive build...

I didn't see if he posted on the lens he was using. I'm wondering in the land of exotic lenses and such how much if any would a difference make if you were to use a small
flat lens that mounts last, that serves as a "one way mirror". It won't drop the overall % of output that much, and it would have saved this build for sure.

just a thought?.

Also the rhetoric should be taken to PM's or the flammin thread. As of late, this kinda behavior has been going on... very distracting.

I was using a jayrob 405-g-1 lens.
