Its really easy, even a dumbass like me can do it...
Just unscrew everything you can see and when you get to the thingy that moves, rip it out...

just practice removing diode from heatsink the four pronged diode ir/red so you can get the hang of it before you attempt the bluray extract .it may save you a headache

it helps to add some solder until all the pins are covered by a single blob, then heat that and it will melt all the connections at the same time, making removal of the little pcbs on the pins easier

ok so like, use a desoldering bulb .. well doesnt solder get hot during this procedure? can i overheat the diode?

im thinking just dowse it in solder then suck it all up.. or is it easier then that?

lift up on the mini diode circuit board as the solder melts and slowly manipulate the thing off right?

make sure you leave the diode in the heatsink while you're doing this, as it prevents the diode from getting hot as easily, then making a quick movement solder all the pins together with a blob of solder, then after cooling heat it again and while the solder is liquid pull the pcb off the pins

i also heard that you can damage the diode if you dont 'short' the circuits or something like that.. what's up with that?

you should always short the leads of your driver before connecting it to your diode as the capacitor can store a charge that if dumped through the diode would toast it

by short you mean connect the - and + terminals together?

or the + and - temrinals of the diode?

and as far as removing this diode from this sled, i dont need to short anything am i cool to just hack away?

no you don't need to short the diode, but if you plan on storing the diode without installing it - shorting the leads together will prevent it from being killed by static

to short the driver you want to connect the + and - outputs of the driver together (with input power off)

once the diode is connected to the driver you can power it up

awesome. well i was going to keep the diode in a anti-static bag so it'll be fine im sure.

What is the preferred method for removing a phr-803t or dt0811 from the heatsink?

I cracked the window in my 811 trying to push it out (no biggie, got it out without killing it) but now I'm afraid to try anything on my first 803t (more on the way luckily) with out asking how others prefer to do it.

not push it out. IMHO. use some snips/wirecutters/dikes, to cut the aluminum away on one spot WITHOUT touching the diode with the cutters. once it has been dented/scratched away/cut, take to pairs of pliers and break it apark, snap it in half or bend it apart and the heatsink can be just pulled out. thats how I would do it.
