Are they always filled with glue?  there is white glue holding the red/ir in the aluminum (practicing on it first) I cut a spot away but I can't get a clean break a bunch of it is left glued to the diode.

edit: it popped when I clipped out the same section on the other side,.. I guess i found the weak spot in the glue.
edit: dt0811 feckin rounded heat sink... pushed in part of the top of the can getting it out, oh well.
edit: 803t went perfectly, hit the weak spot on both sides and cracked it off in four pieces, but i touched the window and now it needs cleaned.

Thanks for the help.

what i did was take two pairs of pliers and snap the metal bracket that holds the laser diode, once you do that the diode either falls out or you can just pull it out from the side it's still stuck in

mariomaster, just to clarify, did you do any downsizing on the heatsink before snapping it apart? When I tried that with my last 803T, my pliers kept slipping lol. I ended up just filing down the heatsink until it was thin enough to snap.

so did you just snap it right after taking it out of the sled, or did you cut/file away at it first?

***EDIT***

nevermind, I filed down a bit, then snapped it off again.

but anyways, I got the diode up and running! She even just lit her first match at only 86 mA!! Awwwwwwwww :p
