6x Lab With Servo Focus

Here is a new build, 6X Blu-Ray adjustable from 39-175 mA on a LM317. One end of the focus servo is burn at 3 inches. The other end of focus is infinity like a pointer. Key is power to the servo circuit and a green LED. The switch sounds a 5 kHz tone for three seconds, then the red LED and the laser comes on. With Meredith Acrylic.
Also visible upper left is a smaller build from years ago, now with a PHR in it.

Great work! Nice use of the servo, come to think of it, I have quite a few servos laying around from my RC days, what are you using to control it?

Are you using an Aixiz module ?

Is 3" to infinity focus done in one turn ?

Pretty slick. I'm guessing that is what the other pot is for. I've been contemplating a XYZ position control with servo focus and a wired remote. Or maybe wireless, haven't decieded yet. Mount your's on a turret and your almost there. Nice work

Its just a simple two 555 timer (556) circuit. This page explains how.http://hades.mech.northwestern.edu/wiki/index.php/555_Servo_Circuit
You can do it with one 555, but I thought I may have trouble reaching both ends of the servo.

Its a Meredith block with acrylic like this. http://www.mi-lasers.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=LDC-13
And the lens probably rotates 120 degrees for that focus range. With the lens sitting close to the diode like the Meredith does, thats all you need. With a Aixiz I would think you may need a lot more. The hobby store did not really have suitable R/C car gears for that ratio. Plus the Aixiz is a little wobbly. It has to be solid or it would jump gears, so the focus gets out of the normal range.

One pot for Power, one for Focus. And I considered a x/y servo aiming type thing. It would be easy with a 2 pot joystick. .But slow.

Also, it has 3rd 555 timer and relay for the 3 second on delay. I meant to add a manual internal shutter. But I may have room for another servo and one more 555 timer. The pcb was done with dry transfer pads, and a Sharpie pen to draw the traces. And etched an drilled and so on.

The original plan was for 9.6v in NiMh or NiCD. With a power plug and built in charge circuit. I probably will move the rear battery bulkhead forward and use 8 AA size NiMh or NiCD. Giving more room for the charge circuit and a driver for a servo shutter.

If you upgrade, #18650 li-ion batteries would reduce the weight, size, and give you more power.

I have converted all of my lasers to li-ion.
