Isn't it some optics in the BR burners for combining beams? Use them and use both BR diodes for double the power

I've seen someone do this with two red open cans, but you lose some light in those diagonally mirrored cubes.. Most reflects, but some goes through..

The output is higher, but not doubled.. Still, i was thinking of trying it myself, but it's hard to align everything perfectly...

Re: 4x Blu

I've been busy on the driver circuit for this thing. It's going into a sonar case with 2 cr123a batteries. Hopefully this weekend will be the time!

6 volt supply for a blu-ray? Fusion driver? We want all of the details!

Re: 4x Blu

The power supply is a switching power supply similar to what is being discussed here:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1194375801

It will be very efficient and suck the batteries totally dry before dimming at all. Where my previous design (the one Fusion is using) was focused on simplicity, this one is focused on power output stability and runtime.

ok, it's time! I'm going in!

Excellent! drlava, please give details of the pin connection too. As you saw on my 2 X writer diode, the pin connection was different than the 3 pin reds...

Re: 4x Blu

The extraction went smoothly, although there were some hairy moments with removing the diode from the little mount. One interesting note: there is a beam circularizer optic built in to the mini diode holder! I have been hoping for these for a while and it's nice to see it. Won't fit in any common collimators, though.

Here the diode is mounted in the aixiz case, with shorting bar installed. Jayrob, it does have the same pin conection as you have found with yours. Do your diodes have the dotcode label shown here?

Re: 4x Blu

so if im right DrLava you connect the negative pin and the neutral o negative pin together?

drlava, your picture is not showing on my screen. But, I have a question for you. With that kind of pin connection, do you think I can go ahead and connect my heatsink/LD case to the MXDL host body? Since I have a DDL style driver, doing so would automatically connect the negative side of the batteries, to the LD case.

Re: 4x Blu

I'm glad I saw this.  What is the pin out of the BR diode?  I assumed it was like the other two diodes in the sled.
I looked at the ribbon connector and it looked like a red connection.

Looks to me like the case and left pin are - and the right pin is + ..... right?

Re: 4x Blu

Success!!!!

Here's a shot of the blu wired up and ready to go:
bluwired.jpg

There is a very small capacitor across it to cut down RF noise that may be picked up by the tester.

and here is the plot to 100mA:
6xB2.PNG

This diode is performing very well so far, and the output matches somewhat the $1000 GH04P21A2GE

[edit: updated the graph to go to 130mA]

Re: 4x Blu

Man! That is one hot blu-ray! Over 70mW's at 100mA's! My 2 X blu-ray writer diode is much weaker:
Edit: After testing a 6 X diode, and then talking to Hemlock Mike for a comparison, the LPM-1 conversion rate for the 6 X blu-ray diodes is 2.6, not 1.75. I believe it is true for this 2 X blu-ray diode as well. This graph was made at the 473nm X 1.75 conversion rate. So, my 2 X blu-ray at 110mA's is actually putting out 63.2mW!

For sure I'm going to get one of those drives for my next one!

Any idea on the question I have on the pin out? I am getting a 4.3 volt reading between the positive lead and the LD case with it turned on. No voltage between the negative lead and the LD case. I am wondering if it will be ok to connect the heatsink/LD to my MXDL host, which uses a DDL style driver. So, it would be like connecting the unused pin, to the negative lead.
Any thoughts on this?

Re: 4x Blu

I guess that the can could be connected to the heatsink (negative), bacause the sled was connected to gnd from the start. Maybe...
