Compatability testing, blah blah standardization, industry collaboration, blah blah...

When are these companies going to wise up and realize we don't CARE about burning archival discs, we just want the freakin DIODES ....

Wow, welcome to last autumn... For a second I thought someone dug up an ancient thread from last year then bumped it. All these articles have been posted a billion times already, they were old news last winter.
These drives will be available this winter, maybe later if people still continue not buying bluray burners at all, they might just try to sell out all the 6x and 8x drives before releasing 12x's. There's been remarkably low demand for bluray burners it seems.
Anyways, one thing I noticed while re-reading these articles is that 420mW is the pulsed rating... I already have a 400+mW CW bluray in my hands right now... I wonder if these diodes really will be much better than the 8x's we already have.

With outputs of the 420mW and 450mW pulsed what might be the CW output? 700mW?

It hard to know if those 8Xs are actually supposed to 400+ CW. For all we know they could be rated for 300 or 350. We always push our diodes way beyond what their set CW rating is set at. Since these 12X dioides are being designed for 450mw powers for "long periods of time", then that could very well mean we could push them up to 500mw+ without any special lenses. Once we incorporate a 405 G-1 lens mod into something of that power, we should be seeing about ~650mw. That's well beyond a class IV rating.

The people that have 8x blu ray diodes (including me) don't run them for more then a minute at high current due to the cost of these diodes. They are just too expensive right now to run a life test on them at >300ma.

Hi, I'm new to the forum :)

Sanyo is advertising its latest diode to have a continuous light output of 200mW and a pulsed light output of 450mW, which makes me think whether or not to wait for the 12x or go for the 8x.
I got a pic of the 12x Sanyo Laser Diode.

Can't wait for the 12x diodes to come out!

Welcome to the forum bottles  this is where a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush:thinking:, get the 8X now !!

Peace All...

look at that pic. the 12x's look just like the 8x's but look at the beam, it appears the 12x's have built in optics.:whistle:

edit. i just noticed the ruler. i wonder if the 10 and 20 are feet?

That beam is completely 100% photoshopped onto the photo. It's not a real beam.

Also, the ruler is in mm, and looks to be very close to the correct scale. The diode cans generally being used form optical storage drives are 5.6mm in diameter, which looks to match that photo pretty well.

Thanx!! I'm thinking about my first DIY...and I got a thread up so if you have any ideas then any input would be great :)

@pullbangdead- i know. i thought my  and my  would have given that away. but at least you arent one of those guys that puts other people down no matter how dumb the question might be.!
