Dont' worry, there shouldn't be any venomous snakes or spiders in there. Just a couple of NICE laser diodes.

YES i receveid my 12x BR pioneer i'm affraid to open it:(

Firefly if you feel that you cannot extract it without first breaking it then have someone do it for you. It may cost you a few bucks extra but at least it won't be for another 12x.

On a side note: These tags are getting to much. I believe it to be Tyler aka DAoO. Or someone else posing

Where be the cheapest 12x nowadays? Ebay hangs around $200 it seems, but adding tax since all those sellers are in CA sucks.

A google search turned up these guys: Pioneer BDR-205BK 12x Blu-Ray Burner Black Serial ATA Interface 12x BD Writer Pioneer Blu-ray Disc Drives-Best Computer Online Store Houston Buy Discount Prices Texas-Directron.com with $183 base price, no tax in CA, and decent shipping bringing it to about $190 for me.

Anything better out there?

You are in the "normal" range for now. Occasionally we get an open box for less :)

Peace,

Just bought one from Newegg...

Sale - $189 with free shipping. (paid tax to CA, but it's still a great price with free shipping)

It's going into my 'Ice Box' TEC build. I'm making a custom copper module to fit my Meredith mounting block...

I read back a little for a good LOL.

"1135mW @ 600mA"

Something as far out as that should require an immediate photo backup before anyone even thinks of paying attention to it.

So this Slipstream guy is now known to have ill intentions mixed with outright lies. Would it be safe to assume his data should probably be deleted from the charts?

Maybe power meter photos should simply become part of the graph entry process. Blame me if I'm too paranoid around this place. :p

Unfortunately, both photos and meters can be manipulated (or simply misused). We are still a "trust based" system.

Well, to be clear I'm now a little bit confused; when I plotted the 405nanometer data, it was clear they were abnormally too high, I said it in my answer #454. Then, after mfo info, I have deleted them from the datasheet.
Now, up to Slipstream: I don't know this guy, maybe some members know him; are we speaking of the same person (Louis) with different registrations? But his data are not so abnormal with respect to the general 12x plots. Yes, they are quite hight, but at the same level I can see the good value of yobresal 2, or the top of the Exerd 2 plots line (the one that I have been able to plot, because I couldn't plot the last value of 885mW !! cause the lack of the mA value). The experience of HM, who reached for few seconds 1000mW, is in someway indicative of the limits of what can be gained with a 12x. So, IMHO I'm not in condition to decide to delete the plots relevant to the three Slipstream lasers: have these lasers been really assembled or not? Are these values trustable or not? The decision is up again to the Senior Forum Members.

Slipstream and 405nanometer (and a few others) are the same person. He wasn't so crazy with the earlier builds. I would leave the existing entries as they are.

jesus fellas, I have been reading about this development for a few days and honestly I am quite surprized.

I would like to do some tests here, are you buying complete drives and extracting the diodes or is somebody selling the diodes already extracted.

I would like.
Tests with without lens. Hard I know with the diodes divegence.
Test all using same driver.
Test With Temperiture monitoring on a none cooled diode, no heatsink, bare diode.
Test with excessive cooling at a specific currents
Test with excessive heating at a specific currents

This way to remove any side effects and also establish maximum ratings for the diodes.

Test to establish the diodes exact raw divergence

I dont mind to do a few "test till die" if the diode prices are ok.

Andy
