Hey Guys, I hope you are all doing O.K!

So, for christmas, my girlfriend ordered me the new style 10mW focasible 405nm pen from O-Like .
New Style focusable blu-ray pen 10mW£*>405nm blue-violet laser£*>Laser&lighting products£*>www.0-like.com

This will be my first Blu-ray laser, and I'm pretty excited. I know Its only 10mW but we cant afford any more at the moment. when i have some more cash, i might get a more powerful one from Jayrob or something. I've never seen a blu ray before, so i cant wait! We ordered a week before christmas. (my Girlfriend, charlie got confused with the payment. So I contacted Susie in MSN and got everything sorted. She was very helpful, answering all my questions very quickly. took 10 mins.) Susie sait it would take 15-25 days. Susie said she would include a power graph as well. I will do a review when I get it.

I already have 2 keychain red pointers. a silvr 2xaaa red pointer from DX that cost less than £2. ;) (Great or the cat) and a Dx 20mW greenie. This will be a nice addition.

Happy new year everyone!!

Dismantling Instructions.....

Hello again, I know one or two people are wondering how to poen these up for a closer look. So herers how. (Pics will be added later.)

1. remove the tailcap, batteries and the rubber button.
2. carefully compleatly unscrew the focusing ring and put in a safe place. (Don't lose the spring!)
3. (the tricky part,) take something that can get a good grip of the 1-2mm of the piece the focusing ring. I found a pair of pliers that work very well. Now slowly twist the front piece back and fourth, the hardest part is getting a good grip on the ring.
once the diode holder seal has been broken, it should come out fairly easy, driver and all.

There you have it, the driver will be exposed for you to examine. The driver looks like this one. http://www.o-like.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=14&zenid=d25eddcec89621f9785dfc3e70f3e2bc

So, a quick quwstion for the more knowlageable people. I took a mesurement of the current with a DMM in series with the batteries. (Battery>DMM>Driver>) And got a reading of about 120mA or so. I am guessing that this is not the diode current. Any idea how much the diode is pulling compared to the rest of the circut?
Gotta run, back to work!!

OK,
You're hooked.

Give it a few months and you'll have a couple burners and be looking for more

I know dude, it can't be a god thing. ;) Startin to think about a dilda red burner now...

@laserboy
Yeah i really like the focusable host, looks really tidy. And I know O-Like have a good reputation for quality.

Happy new year everyone!!

Forget all them pre assembled lasers, get yourself a PHR-803 diode/Aixis Module, make yourself a DDL driver and stuff it all in a little box with a battery & switch.

Burning BluRay styley!

For less than 50 bucks ya cant go wrong...much!

Hey Jaycey! Dont worry, i'm already thinking about a PHR build also. i can buy a DDL cheaper than i can make one, and its smaller. With a diode in Aixis for £12 and a driver for about £3, couple of bucks for battery clip and a box, and I have a Burner for £20 ;)

ice, give this laser a try on a dark wallet or something, you'll get some smoke I bet. I tried matches, though and no dice. Very nice little pointer for the money. I'm kinda curious about what diode is in there, and how to bust this thing open.

Haha, I know jaycey! Looking at a custom green next. then a high power blu ray.

Hey BShan. I just got the laser today, this thing is awesome, real hard to focus on the beam across my living room. Though the focusing ring was really loose, it wobbled from side to side, so i dug out my 10 year old teflon tape and put some on the thread, and its much better now.

I am also intrested in the diode/driver in this laser. Got a feeling it would be a PHR. (is there anything less powerful, apart from the PS3 diode? and I really doubt they would use that. So there will be more in this laser. And as for taking it apart, it looks like its press fitted together, so some wiggling in a vice, 'DX style' might do the trick... but I really dont wanna risk it. i have only had it an hour.

I thinki m a little more able to decern the dot frmot he 'fuzzyness' a bit better now, though my eyes feel a but funny.

I think i got a little puff of smoke frm my black leather wallet, and it seems to distort black bin liners a little. :)

I reaal like this laser so far, its a great little pointer. I cant wait to see a higher power one. 100mW+ :D

I was actually thinking they might be the nichia diodes susie has listed, and just a turned down driver. I should try to get some teflon tape, showerhead's leaking anyways.... good idea!

And I'm with ya on the "too new to take apart" thing. Also, have no vice.

As far as focusing goes, when it is far away I look at the "speckle" of the blob. The black speckles get bigger as it gets closer to being focused down, then they get all grainy again.

The host is looking sweeet. but you would get more mW's for less with "The eBay Br-Pen" ;)

I doubt its gonna be a Nichia diode, at ths price??? There $80 for the diode. The teflon tape does work, but tit gets shredded pretty quick and starts to wabble again. I ended uup using loctite to secure the thread. :/ I cant focus any more, but I prefer stability over focusing.

I know the e-bay pens are a great steal, but oI dont like the new wish host to much. the )-lie host feels great, the button is rubber, not metal or plastic. its also about an inch shorter than the new wish. apart from the loose focusing thread, its a great host.

There are several other "lower-powered" violet diodes besides the PHR available on the "market" side. Especially with these >50mW lasers. They could use most of the reader diodes in them.

Peace,

thanks for the inpud Daguin! I asked Susie, and she said she doesn't know what diode is in the pen. :/

Time to look into something with a bit more 'oomph' Ether a PHR or SWF in an Axis module, with a Rickstar driver seems like a good combo....
