Hey guys,

Where to begin.....Well, i finally found out how to register after roughly 10mins of searching :shhh: talk about blind (not from lasers though) haha.

Second, after extensive research, I've finally found out what type of first laser I would like. The PL-E v3 600mW 532mW laser from Jet laser, I hear the customer service it one of the best out there. And yes I'm going to get GOOD safety goggles (and always wear them while the laser is in operation while inside), never aim the beam at people, planes, animals or reflective surfaces and use my common sense as to avoid common mistakes made. I've read many posts about laser safety, accidents and general knowledge that has made me aware of the dangers.

Finally, my question. On the Jet lasers site, the beam divergence for the 532mW is 2.0mrad, now that seems kinda bad for a high quality laser, however the lens is adjustable which means the divergence would change, but would adjusting the lens increase the divergence or the beam diameter or both (2.5mm adjustable)?

Thanks for your time

I would have to look at mine when I get home. I can measure it for you at distance and see what kind of changes I get. But this laser is amazing none the less. I would recommned it. Plus like you have mentioned, the costomer service is amazing.

On a side note, wekcome to LPF

Look into some of the threads about Australian customs and lasers.

WELCOME+

[B..I am the forum USA associate for JETLASERS lasers( its not jet laser btw)

High Power 532 handhelds are not known for having the best divergence- that is just the nature of the beasty. And, YES with the unique internal focus you will be able to get a small dot at certain distances.

Our forum company rep for JETLASERS is a member here is Gray, and he replies to PMs fairly quickly username is JETLASERS.
And you are correct about the great customer service both before and AFTER the sale, I have helped forum members buy more than 80 JETLASERS(8 GBs) and they are almost no unhappy buyers ( some folks can never be made happy)

I no longer host GBs for Gray/JL as he sends them to me to sell outright at GB prices direct from me in Houston Tx. I also ship to Canada, all others like yourself can order from jetlasers.org and use BOTH LPF & my name to get the GB pricing.

Lately shipping both the lasers AND the needed batteries has become very problematic.

Its just asking for seizure by sending them together..
especailly to you in Oz.

I recommend that you purchase your needed batteries from a china source and in advance as JL ships express(~$30) and there is no fun in having the laser and no way to power it up.
The Pl-E you are looking at will run from a single 26650 ( the gold colored King Kongs are ideal- with 4000mAh) and you can use a single 18650 with the free sleeve provided OR you can purchase the extension tube that allows the use of TWO batteries for longer time between charging and also you can purchase a ac/dc converter to run the laser from mains. I do NOT recommend pushing these too far you may not do damage by over heating these but it NOT worth the risk- if the laser becomes HOT to your touch it really needs ( and deserves- IMHO) a 'rest' to allow cooling down. I never run any of mine more than 4 or 5 min or even less.

all JLs in 532nm have both IR filters and reverse polarity protection. ALL JLs take the battery with the Positive end to the rear.

If you are looking for a very thin beam and great divergence buy the JL 150 mW titanium (Ti-B 532/150 $192usd + shipping)) see all the threads and reviews- here at LPF- here are VERY many if you know where to look.+
PM me if you cannot find answers on your OWN.. good luck and happy lasing!!

Welcome. I recently got a 700mW PL-E from jetlasers. you are correct about the divergence. on mine, the focus only narrows the beam within the first few meters. 2mRad is not great, but mine does reach farther than my multi-mode 445nm rifle. Dragonlasers has the hulk ultra 400mW available. it has 1.2 mRad, as do pen pointers from optotronics. If you want green with better divergence, you will likely have to sacrifice some mW. I have bought from Dragonlasers, Lazerer and Jetlasers so far, and Jetlasers customer service is the best, though dragonlasers has decent response time too. Watch this to get an idea of what the divergence of dragonlasers allows for. If I pointed my PL-E at this same building, my dot would be considerably larger. 1.5 Miles Range for High Power Green Lasers - YouTube

That said, I love my PL-E. CNqualitygoods.com has king kong unprotected 4200mAh 26650 batteries for a decent price. this trades protection for an extra 200mAh. MR. Hakzaw1 will know more about Jetlasers than myself. The PL-E can also be powered by ac, for 10 bucks more, I recommend it. AC option for handhelds is rare, the only other green laser I know has this are the hercules series from laserglow, which are thousands of dollars. I myself may be getting an expansion tube to use two king kongs from MR. Hakzaw1, though even one powers this beast for quite some time.

If you do indeed live in the country/continent, you need special permits or friends on the inside at customs, in order to get a laser over 1mW, if I am not mistaken. Something about laser attacks at Sydney airport circa 2008

Thanks for all the info guys.

I'll probably get the 400mW 532nm Hulk Ultra laser from Dragonlasers, then work my way from there. Although the Ti-B 532nm from Jetlasers is cheaper, and looks better, but has only 100mW of power.

About customs....I could ship the laser to my mates house in Darwin, (There's no laser restrictions there as far as I know) then get him to post it down to me via Auspost. It's not illegal to post lasers over 1mW through domestic mail, is it?

Not sure about customs, but I can say it would be a shame to have such a nice laser as the hulk ultra be taken away. Dragonlasers used to have that model all the way up to 600mW, which was supposed to be capable of hitting 1 watt during peaks. If you get this model and really love it, be sure and let me know, as I am considering the 200mW version.

btw, that Ti-B from jetlasers hits 150mW, not 100mW, but yeah, thats not close to 400

unquote-- Hmmm that is news to me and something all down 'There' should look into.. Too many look at the small picture and go cheap wanting to save a few dolllars when the smart move is to spend just a bit more and get a happy ending...

about shippping laser to and from Aus..

look guys-

its YOUR country and your country's laws.

Gray hates to disappoint ANYONE but REALLY- if you cant handle a possible bad ending just don't buy a laser from anyone that requires shipping from outside Aus.
you will find ZERO sellers on ebay that will offer a second 'free' laser should your get taken.

.So if you insist on buying you need to put on your 'big boy' pants and know that if it does not make it you must live with that-

How can you place blame on JL??

IMO is VERY unfair to expect JL to 'eat' the loss... AFAIK JL makes very little profit on lasers that we buy-(especially in a GB)- their money makers are the ones sold to law enforcement and the military.

SO that's just the way it is... JL does not contact buyers with offers- the buyers contact JL and me for their needs- so be aware that there is always the possibility of a laser being seized and do not expect a second to be shipped as the problem is with your countries laws and no other reason.. WL may be the only exception but being so bg and having sold so many lasers this is possible-- thats just my opinion.

With so many idiots doing the STOOPID here in the USA we may be soon be in that same boat..

So just because you can talk JL into shipping to Aus. the facts remain the same-

hope for the best but expect the worst..

and don't forget to get your Li-ions either on your own or from JL but NOT sent WITH the laser- that is a NO_BRAINER and just begging for seizure!! If I were youI would offer to pay for a second shipping for a second box with only 'half' a laser in each..
