:tinfoil:
First off, a little background of myself. I'm 25 with just a HS education. Currently I manage a small electronics store (Radio Shack) in the US. I've dealt with web and graphic design (Had a LLC for some time). This laser addiction wasn't planned in the least, just sorta happened.
I have been interested in passive polarized duel projector setups ( IE Imax and Real3d) 3d visualization for some time. I was originally working with this with the intention of using it with video games. Due to some market research, my concentration turned towards concert and stage effects. I was approached by a local venue, but at this time I only had small pico projectors to test out some concepts. The time frame for what they were looking for was not enough to get a 3d system up and running to the quality I would have required.
However, I figured I can put something together using a few lasers (I remember being floored by the beam of a simple low power green laser pointer). In a short time this has morphed into something much bigger then I would have imagined, and don't see it stopping anytime in the near future. I never figured i would enjoy reading about and comprehending laws of physics. Nor did I ever figure I would own a smoke machine and a atomizing humidifier (pretty damn effective) for the only purpose of seeing a beam of light. And the last month it started becoming a common occurrence to find myself cutting down mirrors, ripping apart speakers, and generally "experimenting" with different items and their reflective properties. Hours and hours of research and trial and error have left me just wanting to try out more.
Micro-controllers, programming, and circuitry are new to me, but i'm now working with simple stamp board and p basic and this has opened up an entire new realm of possibilities that i can use in conjunction with lasers. This website has provided me with much information in a very short amount of time, and has pointed me in the right direction more than once. Figured it's about time I introduce myself and take part in some of the discussions.
I have many, many concepts I hope to explore and share. And am truly excited to see what others produce. Some of my goals over the next few months include: Self contained laser lighting stage effects, single effect simple systems (such as a setup that only will produce the liquid sky effect) and even a what I would call a "low end" galvo alternative. The reason I call it a Galvo alternative is that it is aware of its location on each axis, and self corrects itself in real time, using collective sensors.
I may be using some very basic, under powered lasers at the moment (just a >5mw Red and a 15-20MW Green), but hope to build up my collection as needed. May basic green laser along with either the humidifier or smoker is more than enough to test out most of the concepts and for general experimenting. Hope to learn from others that have much more experience in this field, and to eventually contribute my own research and insight!
