HELLO EVERYONE, I'M NEW HERE TO LPF!!!

So I'm new to the forums and lasers in general and was wondering if you guys n' gals could teach me some stuff about lasers! :lasergun: I was interested in building a blue or purple laser (405nm-445nm) and just need some advice on which one to pick. I done some general research on lasers and know only a tiny bit, but would love to learn more! Thanks everyone and i hope to get to know some of you and even be friends with some!

Thanks, Shaq

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

Any time now one of the moderators will chime in with the standard links so I won't be doing that one...yet.:eg:
I can't believe I'm saying this but...spend much more time looking at the postings here. This very question was just asked a couple of days ago by another new member so the info is here.
Both are dangerous to have and for a first build there are better options, for a bunch of reasons. (Again you need to look into it to find out what I mean.)

So get a comfy chair, a nice beverage, maybe a snack, and read read read.
-The longer you read the more money you can save as you will be spending it faster & faster....

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! I have just about been waiting all day for someone to answer me! I will enjoy staying here and have been reading:D! I am happy to finally have a welcome and response and will definitely read more and more, and probably end up buying my parts of the forums (I have also been looking at Survival lasers).

:thanks: a million

I dont get the poll. You want us to tell you what color to chose? Only you can answer that. There is a boat load of info on both. Take a few minutes and read up on each, then you can make an educated decision.

Why not both?

Because I gave a limited amount of money I can spend. Sorry for not stating that out:yabbem:. Also I was trying to see which colour would be easier to build with, as I have just about no knowledge on building lasers and sort of want to know what will give out a stronger/brighter beam for the price. And thanks for welcoming me:whistle:.

Thanks,
S

Brighter and stronger are subjective terms.
Under some circumstances one is better than the other.
For brightness in standard room conditions you might want to stay to the greens though.
Cheaper, safer, highly visible, easier to work with. Usually a good start for a first build (from what I have read.)
Reds would be even easier but a bit more limited on their visibility.
The blue (455nm) are usually a higher power unit that while very visible is also very dangerous. They also are more expensive and much less forgiving for noob mistakes.
The 405nm are very popular for builds but the visible part of the beam is somewhat limited under normal conditions. Again the power levels are usually fairly high and very dangerous. Under the right conditions they can be very useful.
Check out the threads and see. I think you would be better off with the greens although there is more here about the blues as they are the latest addition to the repetoire.

Hey ! Where's Jerry and his welcoming ???

If your searching for 1W then your only logical (affordable) choice is 445nm.

You've just go to search around to find the cheapest prices. Many of people sell items through the forum.

For your first build, I would go with a 405 PHR. They are cheap so if you screw up, its not too bad.

Not to be rude but I could care less if you're new. If you want a welcome then introduce yourself. Dont open up a poll asking for info you could easily find the answer for if you took a couple of minutes to read a stickie or two.

Do you feel welcomed yet?

Thanks everyone for welcoming me and i have been reading around the forums and think I'm going to go with the 445nm. I have been talking to a member called jayrob about his builds for hosts and think that ill get one of his hosts with one of daguin's (David I think is his name) diodes for 44nm. Thanks everyone for voting in the poll and the welcomes!

Thanks,
-S

Looking at your signiture, you want magenta?

you will need to combine 405nm with 660nm, then vary the power levels to get the color ballance right for that particular hue.

Hi GBD, and no, I not want the colour magenta, I just found the picture whilst searching "light spectrum" on google:yh:.

Thanks,
