Hi, new guy chef here, student in Northern Ireland studying physics, maths and chemistry. Fed up watching other people make cool lasers on here so i recently joined up bought some diodes and I'm ready to give it a try myself.



Don't worry, I know I should be ashamed of what I've done to that poor diode and driver; just couldn't wait for the module and heat sink to arrive. Yes it works, pulsed it to 1.95W but have refrained from pushing it further in fear of it dying.

Anyway just came to say hi and show you what I'm all about. Hope to cook up some more polished builds later. Looking forward to my stay here.

Wewlcome to the LPF. That said, how do you know what power you got out of it in a pulse? Do you have a laser power meter? If not and you are measuring the power by how much current is drawn at the supply voltage, this is not optical power. A lot of it is waste heat. You need to press that diode into a module and then heat sink the module. Your driver IC should be heat sinked as well or it will fail from thermal runaway.

Sorry, should have clarified, supplied 1.95W to it. Waiting for the heat sinks and fans to arrive, wanted to check the diodes worked; that and the fact I couldn't really help myself getting started. Thanks for the tips <3
