Hey guys, I'm Mike. I'm from Ohio. I found laser pointer forums from styropyro's 3W laser video a while back. I bought a couple lasers and thought i'd finally join. I still need to get goggles and maybe a laser power meter.

I've learned a lot from you guys and I hope to learn more

welcome to the community. for glasses please go to the yellow link in my signature and look under the safety section. as far as LPM goes, hold off for a little bit. really only needed if you are building and selling lasers or want to verify outputs of your laser but the last option would be expensive

If your lasers are fairly powerful, then goggles are pretty key. The thumb rule everyone keeps saying is >5mW, but just be smart about it. There are lasers built by artisan craftsman here that WILL destroy tissue before you can react, but most of the pointers you'll get from local stores that are designed for presentations and such won't require goggles as long as common sense beam respect is applied. Check the safety stickies and read up on it. Also, having bought several pair of goggles ranging from cheap generic to OEM Laser Systems (very high quality), I highly recommend the Eagle Pair brand from Survival Laser.

Be safe and have fun!
