Hello everyone, I'm new to the laser scene and I'm really fascinated in them for a number of reasons, probably the most obvious of them being that they are friggin lasers! I am a full time student in college and study astronomy and would love to get a high powered laser for star pointing and other nighttime fun!

Welcome to the forum. Just remember that for star pointing you don't need a hi power laser, quite the contrary, you need a low power one just to avoid loosing your night vision.
Normally astronomy lasers are 5mW...

Good luck and have fun.

Welcome to the forum,

Well if you decide to get a cheap green laser from eBay for astronomy just remember it will most likely be way over spec, which means it will most likely pop a balloon,

SO MAKE SURE you pick up a good pair of eagle pair safety goggles

Have fun and stay safe :)

I'm also interested in the long range possibilities, and showing it off in class when discussing matter experiments, the kids would just love it, our school doesn't have a huge budget for these things, which is really unfortunate.

As you stated in your 1st Post I wouldn't take a High Powered Laser
to any school unless you have the funds to buy every last student
and teacher that you want to impress a pair of appropriate Laser
Safety Goggles/Glasses.

That being said......

Hello Rageypoo, welcome to LPF :)

Be careful what lasers you take into a school.

It would only be under the approval of my professor, I wouldn't take it to school otherwise ; )>

That being said, thanks for welcoming me! do you guys have any recommendations for glasses? I do plan on having at least a 1w laser, possibly even going up to the 3w lasers for the range and power. I am interested in blue and green lasers, particularly the green ones.

Thanks guys!
