...geez I hate this state...why won't it snow?! ;)

So I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now and finally bit the bullet and became a member.

I work in the entertainment industry, for an extremely large company run by an over grown rat! I'm around some really big lasers every day, but have had very little "personal" experience with them.

So a couple of weeks ago I ordered a +30mw laser pointer from Optotronics (based on feedback from this forum) and fell immediately in love. Now I want to go bigger and have a little more say in what components the laser is built out of.

I've been in contact with jayrob already and he's been a great resource for hammering out my build. I'd also like to thank DTR and Flaminpyro for their beautiful write ups and how-to's. Hopefully in a couple of weeks, I'll be able to contribute to this awesome site.

Thanks to everyone on here...see you soon!

Laser goggles...a must have...I know.

All of the techs on our show with lasers, get their eyes photographed yearly. I've been doing entertainment lighting since I was 17 (I'm old now) and with the move to fiber optics as the most efficient means of data transfer over long distances, I've taken a few classes in fiber distribution systems. In one of those classes I got to see, first hand, the horror stories of the first fiber techs looking down large single mode fiber strands to verify transmission and the little holes burned in their retinas.

With that being said, I'm going to start with the Survival Lasers model until I'm sure I want to spend $150 on real, glass goggles.

Thanks for the input guys!
