Hi, I'm Chuck

I took electronics at my vocational high school, I collect and restore old arcade games, I have a decent understanding of basic electronics, soldering, and can (mostly) read/understand schematics. I especially enjoy CRT monitors and the science behind them, I always have spare parts kicking around to tinker with.

Here lately my arcade tinkering has re lit my desire to learn more about electronics, building circuits and maybe even a little circuit bending. I figured lasers would be a cool place to dive in and after a few days of lurking the wealth of knowledge this amazing forum has to offer I decided to take the plunge and join.

I bought a cheap 250mW 650nm red laser off Amazon to cut my teeth on but I plan on savaging for dvd, cd and bluray players to source parts from. I have tons of resistors and transistors in my arcade stash, I think I'd like to make some kind of computer controlled laser etcher to make my own PCBs

In the meantime I'll keep reading as much as I can, can anyone link me to some "must reads"?

A good place to start is the "stickies" threads at the top of all the individual forums, a lot of good info. there.

Also, the white custom search bar at the bottom of the page has most anything laser related that you need.

Edit: A lot of good stickies in the "welcome" section for new members.

this is the diode I bought, hopefully I didn't buy garbage

http://laserpointerforums.com/f42/diy-homemade-laser-diode-driver-26339.html

I'm pretty sure I already have all the parts to build this driver

The more topics I read the more I fall in love with lasers. I'm gonna get as deep as I am in arcades

That diode module appears to have a built in driver, so you don't need to add one.

Welcome!
