Wow. Where to start? That might be okay for the least powerful diodes we have, but you should see what people are doing here now before you try to design anything. Most of our diodes are pressed into 12 mm modules that can also hold a small driver. If the driver is set for over 2 amps it must be heat sinked. Where on your host can one put a module. We have presses designed to press diodes into these modules. Where can the driver be heat sinked? And if you think that tiny heat sink will give a 30 to 45 second duty cycle, well only with the weakest diodes. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum Chris. :)
It is a nice design, but like Paul said it won't work for any higher power lasers we have here.
Have a look at some of our builders here, Lifetime17, ElectricPlasma and Jayrob to name a few. They may be able to give you some guidance.
I look forward to seeing what you produce in the future.

Oh, I certainly have looked at some of the builds like jayrobs!

Again, there is no scale, so it is hard to tell, but this design is for a AAA battery... so I don't expect more than 400ma of output. Paul, the module it the top tube, and the whole unit acts as part of the heat sink :)

The user would only have to press his diode into the copper diode housing ( the one that is 11.95 x 12mm and contains the 9mm lens), solder the driver to the diode and just screw it in :)

I would love to make 2amp builds, but I like pocket size housings and I have yet to find a battery that can output that much current which is small. I do have a 2400mah AA... but because of the battery chemistry it outputs less than a lithium ion.

I like the simple small builds, 500mw is still a lot of power :) but if nobody on this forum cares for that then I can make some 2w+ lasers

I would put a M140 or M462 in a host that size. Might be better to scale it up to a 14500 battery. Interested.

Exactly! I have thought about the battery size a lot, I think the CR2 is the best to start with or the host is longer than necessary.
