No big deal about the burning laser, lesson learned not to order from cheap sites. I have already learned a lot from forums, inclding here. The reason I am joining now is that I think I am going to stay with this hobby for a while and do a build or 2. It seems like it may be a challenge from what I have read, but that's part of the fun. I'm a visual learner so when I built my first RC helicopter from a kit it was easy between the manual, YouTube vids, and info on forums. Although they're WAY less steps and parts to a laser for some reason it still seems like just a challenge.

Also, thanks everyone for the kind reception.

I was able to +REP you for a good welcome and to get you on your way here.
I would also like to see pics of this issue you are referring to. I'm not sure what you mean by POS laser but the only thing I can come up with that could cause that issue is battery venting and that's extremely dangerous.

Thanks, and battery venting! Than never crossed my mind, let me think on that for a minute and maybe take a look.

And by POS I just mean its junk.

It can't be batt venting, the carbon is only building up on contact points like the back of the battery and the tail cap/switch contact, and the host's threads and the tail cap's threads. I'm guessing if it was batt venting it would line the whole battery compartment, and look different than black carbon?

I do want to take it apart pretty bad but I didn't build it and don't know how or if I can get it back together, and if I can is it even repairable. Its a risk vs. reward type thing.

Battery venting doesn't have to cover the whole compartment. Most often, failure points are near the contacts anyway. I'd say any sort of carbon buildup that occurs frequently without completely killing the laser would have to be from your battery. Does the battery itself get hot in use? Does your charger have a similar carbon buildup?

The whole host gets hot including the batteries inside, so I can't really tell the source of the heat, though it seem to start from the led/heatsink area, but its hard to be sure of this. The batteries seem to charge OK with no carbon build up. I have a new set of Efest IMR 16340 I want to try but don't want to get them carboned up.

The area in between the threads where the cap/switch screws onto the host is farther from the battery but that is where most of the carbon accumulates. Actually the only the neg of the back battery ever has deposit on it(and just a small spot), and that is the area that touches the cap's switch contact.

Thank you for your input, Im impressed by how many people are willing to give their input, I wasn't expecting so much interest in a welcome thread!

Yea Hak's right, I will post a mini review within the next couple of days about the the laser (ple pro 445 2W) and my experience with SciFi vs. Jet Lasers'. Sorry probably no beam shots, as I don't have a half decent camera.

I was not going to say anything about SciFi, but people want to know why I didn't get the Arcane, and I think people deserve to know what's going on. Ill try to stay factual and unbiased. I will come back and leave a link here when done If I remember.

Thanks for the +rep everyone!!!
