Hello Everyone! I just thought that I would post a quick bit about myself here so that you can see where I'm coming from.
First and foremost, I would like to bring my age to the front of the table. I don't like lying, so I will come right out and say that I am sixteen. I hope you can give me the benefit of the doubt as I progress through these forums.

Second, a little background:
From an early age, I have always loved science and technology. This, not surprisingly, meant that my parents had a very hard time finding gifts for me. I have never been one to like "toys." :D This inevitably led me down paths that were quite dangerous for my age. I first dabbled in chemistry, and although this ended up being a phase, The strict attention to safety and detail has rubbed off on me and I now exercise this knowledge in day-to-day life.
I have always taken everything very seriously, and safety is no exception!

I became interested in various forms of light at age twelve, when I acquired my first blacklight from a Walmart. It wasn't too long after that when I got my first shortwave ultraviolet lamp which, as I am sure you know, is NOT a toy. I had to wear ultraviolet goggles when operating it so as not to blind myself. I used it almost weekly for viewing my fluorescent mineral collection until it broke at age fourteen.

Now is the time when I stop boring you, and tell you why I signed up:
I have a love for all things that have photons, and I believe I now have the time to devote to a new hobby. I have alot to learn, and I have been going over laser procedure regularly everyday for about a week. I also purchased a pair of safety glasses for a 532nm laser I plan on getting. I hope I can learn here, and maybe even help others with any shortwave ultraviolet topics related to bulbs, or lasers! I would also love to get into building my own lasers.

Thanks for providing such a rich, informative community!
See you on the boards,
----Connor----

Sorry about that, not too much fun. Those troopers are everywhere down here because of all the things that filter up into Florida from Cuba. Small town police forces are incredibly strict too!

Thanks for the welcomes everyone!

Be sure to check out all the 405nm diodes we regularly work with! I think those might suit a few of your interests...

Thanks again everyone.
Also, Meatball excuse my ignorance on the matter, but are there any diodes in the UVC range? I have worked with lower powers of 280nm light, and I am aware of the risks while working with these. The two lamps I have owned had a visible light filter retrofitted onto them so extra safety measures had to be taken.
I am assuming that if there are 280nm lasers, the potential for harm would be more directed, and consequently far greater. I'm guessing I would have to cover my skin? :undecided:
