I went to DCI nationals once - years ago - and it was epic. I was a percussionist in HS, but never followed on with it after, but have a lot of drum and bugle enthusiast friends that keep in the loop on what's going on... and, I get regular invites to go to the annual championships. Usually, I'm too busy to attend, but it's still very cool.
Familiarize yourself with the search tool if you haven't already. It's your friend. There is a ton of info in the archives on every topic you can think of that is laser-related. Be safety conscious and have a blast. This is a very addictive hobby. Consider yourself warned. Hide your wallet.
