There has been a few of the newer members that have seemed to miss this part of the stickies. I really don't understand why they think that posting in every thread and every part of LPF is some how going to magically make them liked here at LPF.

Granted that every one of us have done it when we started out. Posting questions that have been asked a million times. That is most of us did not read the the stickies before we started our journey here.

Most of the guys that I have seen posting like crazy really get a bad rep fast because of it. I do not like seeing that but it is a fact of life here on lpf.

Here are some of the ideas I have come across for the reasoning behind blanket posting.

1. They think because they have a 1000 posts they will have access to the veterans section of LPF because they want to see over the wall.

2. They think that if they have lots of posts that every one will think they are important or something along those lines.

3. Some are just plain Internet Trolls and want to make a wake.

4. They are really younger than they say and the age shows.

5. Have nothing better to do so they read every thing and think that their opinion is needed!

those are a few of the reasons I've come up with. They might be wrong or they might be right on.


New Guys:

1. Please Read the stickies..

2. Posting multiple times does not make you look good just the opposite

3. Use some common sense when posting..

4. If you think we do not see you think again we see you.

5. It has been said more than likely and you re-posting it does not make any sense.

5. Posting in dead threads in Necro Posting and is frowned on.

6. Less is more

Well said vortish. The new people would know all this if they just did a little more reading before joining and posting. I will add a couple of things to this:

1: All new members are supposed to make a thread in the "Welcome" section and tell us at least a little about yourself. Preferably on your first post.

2: To many leave there profile blank at first. Fill in your profile with some info, at least your age and location. Members will treat you with more respect if they know your age and at least what country your in. There are members here anywhere from 12 years to late 60's, and in countries around the world.

3: Don't make your first post "I want to buy a powerful laser, what do you recommend?" Or don't ask where is the best place to buy something if we don't even know what country your in, most people wont bother to answer you.

Well said both of you. I would ad the most obvious yet often not practiced by many new members...DO A QUICK SEARCH!!!!!! Here is a tip for searching. Do not use the search engine here its pretty poor as is the case with all forums. Use Google and after your inquiry type a comma and then write Laser Pointer Forums. ex

What is the inner diameter of the Kryton Groove host, laser pointer forums.

I am often amazed how well this works. Repeat basic questions are not only annoying but dilute the quality content on the forum with endless "whats a good pair of safety glasses" threads. Go check the safety section right now there are at least 4 or 5 of this exact same question on page one alone!!!! I think a couple are right on top of each other which is pretty amusing.

But seriously new people, do your own search FIRST. You can then make a thread for clarification and or further explanation but by showing you have at least a basic understanding of your inquiry from doing a search, you will be much appreciated and liked and others will be willing to take the time out of their day to help you.

And above all be appreciative. This is a great place with brilliant minds from veteran members and admins that don't often get a lot of thank yous for their efforts. Nobody here is getting a paycheck to help you learn and give away decades of knowledge so a simple thanks hear and again is the right thing to do.

As a "newbie" and this being my first ever forum that I've joined I can understand new folk jumping in feet first, eyes closed...

I've hardly read any stickies, though I have read some and I fully respect how senior members think "Oh no, not this old chestnut... AGAIN"

But in defense to the newbies, they aren't mind readers and have to read the rules before being able to follow them.

I will now think at least twice before posting... ahh

I also found google search better at finding what I wanted here in LPF.. Now I need to be a little less hasty and take time out to read a fair few more stickies... but please don't expect me to read them all.... and at any time feel free to put me in my place if I step out of line (That way I'm sure to remember how to behave)

Hmmnnn..... that will be my age shinning through.... I'm just a 50yr old youth :-D

I just want to clarify in regards to search...

At the top of the page is the LPF search. Don't use this.

At the bottom of the page is a google search bar. Use this, it's way better than the top of the page search. Actually, it's basically the same as using google like mwfreefly suggested, but already on the page.

Sorry Chaoslord, but I did a search in both the bottom here and google and found google still easier to work with and easier to read... possibly my failing eyesight due to color background.... or the way you get multi-links on certain websites with google... but then, that's only my opinion, others may differ

Though.... on 2nd thoughts.... the best answer on google was the top answer on here.... I just find google easier to read.... probably my age and fading eyesight.... So in theory I was wrong..... and in fact you was right ChaosLord

I can see that. I was just putting it out there for anybody peeping the thread. I've seen quite a few newbies use the "LPF search" and get nowhere, so they make a thread. So I mearly pointed out that the bottom google search bar is MUCH better.

This thread will fall on deft ears. Go look at the newbies and see they have hundreds of posts and positive rep. This thread seems like it had the right intention but would gain much more traction if it wasn't new members making the gripes.

Perhaps one way to stop it would be to police it by attaching a relevant link to a stickie to each offending thread.... A little tedious, I know, but if they are left to their own devises they could ruin a great thing here.

This forum has given me a great insight to lasers and more!!..... For which I'm extremely thankful, and I've still got an amazingly large amount to learn....

Right..... I think I may just spend a lot more time here reading rather than posting and come back when I'm much more informed.

This should be a sticky...Too many people do all those things.

I always wonder if its just the younger generation, and them being used to having everything handed to them...Honestly you'd think by looking at some of the posts on here that kids don't know what a search bar is.

In fairness, I never posted in the welcome section and I think I turned out alright. Or at least, that's what the voices tell me to believe....

I never made one either. A lot of the guys keep asking for a welcome thread though like it's mandatory. Good people though of course, not trying to rip on anyone :yh:

I always had the impression that it is mandatory. In the stickies in the welcome area the first sticky in the first post says it is:
