I am a mobile deejay and I like to use lasers for effects. I'm curious about something, has anyone used old CDR's or DVD'd as laser reflectors?

I'd be careful with that if you tried. It could be difficult to predict where the beams would go. Wouldn't want to damage any eyes! After all, CDs don't have a uniformly reflective surface like mirrors do.

I'd get a cheapo 5mw red and a pair of laser safety goggles, see how the light spreads. If it's safe, take it from there.

They have decent "projectors" on gamazon that use a diffraction grating to evenly spread the beams on a surface vs random. Some of the cheap green ones lack an IR filter. This is not seen by the human eye and further risks an audience. Make sure to never crowd scan. also be VERY careful of reflective surfaces. I guess what I'm saying is treat this technology for what it is... BRIGHT! CAN/WILL BLIND YOU if misused. Ive seen too many renegade shows misusing lasers. I would rather educate than ignore.

.... some of the kids do..

FYI DJs do not have the best safety record-controls--or restraint..

AND no FDA Operators or show variances..
and some have gotten into legal probs- and when somebody posts a party vid on ytube and we can see laser dots on the faces of people-- we are NOT happy campers bout that...and those who play by the rules can make trouble for those that do NOT----and don't get me started on injury lawsuits...
stick to LED lights-- & do yrself a favor..:D
