Often enough people just run into old threads by searching and don't even notice their age. Sometimes one gets revived so to me it looks recent and i will comment in it, especially if it's still relevant.

There is no reason all old threads should not be continued, sometimes little has really changed over time and additional information is useful.

I agree. Very good way to put it. Even if the poster asks a question, assuming at least tried to scan through the thread, new knowledge may be out there.
