how do you plan on keeping the diode cool? or do you think there will be enough air around the module to keep the heat down ? (i am assuming that that is made of plastic)

there should be plenty of space to add thermal mass so it shouldn't have any problems - granted you stick to a relatively sane duty cycle

A million epic win's to you if you figure out how to make it only turn on when you dial 405 then call. That would be so awesomely awesome.

Use a pic or avr microcontroller with a simple piece of software

I have some PC heatsinks lying around, i may just hack saw them to fit in the phone and drill a hole in it for the module.

I could put a red and a green in here, if I build a BR into one of the other hosts I have that would give me a 30mW green module, im not gonna do that for a while though.
