Got a DPSS pointer rated 100-200mW, it only works when it's warm! Very dim to no output below 20 Celsius..

Is this normal?

Yeah, thats why I don't prefer DPSS pointers they are pretty useless here in north ❄️
I'm sure there are some dpss lasers that work, like with self frequency doubling crystals. Like you can make a 575nm yellow pointer that could work at cold temperatures ive never tested it out, i might test it out with my homemade 565nm pointer to see if it will work in the cold.

Yes, normal for DPSS lasers.
Heat generation significantly affects the power stability of the lasers: Miniature DPSS lasers are extremely temperature sensitive. "The first miniature DPSS lasers to enter the market had a very limited temperature range: values typically ranged between 10°C and 30°C or between 15°C and 40°C. There currently some versions currently available range from -5°C to +50°C." See: https://www.lasercomponents.com/se/...520-nm-laser-diodes-and-532-nm-dpss-lasers-1/
"DPSS lasers are sensitive to temperature and can only operate optimally within a small range. Otherwise, the laser would suffer from stability issues, such as hopping between modes and large fluctuations in the output power" See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diode-pumped_solid-state_laser

Can you back that temperature statement up with something other than speculation based upon wishful imagination?
Please provide actual credible 3rd party data or papers supporting the above posted statement if any exist.

"Because of the phase matching requirements for the primary and secondary harmonic wave in a nonlinear optical crystal.
efficient self - doubling laser crystals are very sensitive to crystal orientation , alignment , optical path length , and temperature"

Nobody anywhere in the world makes or offers any 575nm pointers much less cold temperatire versions, so is more than a bit difficult to claim that.

Anything on the Lasence actual web site over 545nm shows operating temperature 10 or 15 degrees C to 50 degrees C
See 561nm modules listed here for example: http://www.lasence.com/Product/Wavelength/11509.html
Example #2 555nm operating temp =10 to 50 degree C here: https://lasence.en.alibaba.com/prod...?spm=a2700.shop_plser.41413.13.35631eb5xQtJRD
Example 3# 575nm operating temp 23-27 degree C https://lasence.en.alibaba.com/prod...?spm=a2700.shop_plser.41413.17.2ce5697azoSP8M
Example #4 570nm or 575nm module operating temp 23 to 27 degrees C https://lasence.en.alibaba.com/prod...?spm=a2700.shop_plser.41413.25.2ce5697azoSP8M
Example #5 574nm module operating temp 23 to 27C https://lasence.en.alibaba.com/prod...?spm=a2700.shop_plser.41413.17.b820697ab9GRjl
