Argh.. Burnt diode and driver... Dont sodder drunk guys...
The custom host and design seems promising despite size issues with heatsink.
I was able to compensate for the loose fit of the heatsink with a pair of key rings! One very lightly soddered to the grove in the host a few mm's down on...
I've been doing some research just to get a better understanding of my new hobby and came across some interesting stuff.
Some spying applications where sound vibrations are being 'conducted' through a laser beam after being bounced off a refracted surface. Very cool!
Heres a sample...
This feature seems to be down. Second attempt in a week and a half, even though emails with your items are sent to you there is no request via paypal.
Also havent anwsered any of my emails concerning this issue...
Unannounced hiatus?
Do you this that heatsink would be alright for the module? Or would the LM317 need some kind of heat sink too? I've read they're downside is that they release excess energy as heat..
Thanks Envy, I definitely agree. Much nicer on the wallet too!
I was hoping I'd be good with DTR's module as-is. If not I was either buying this from ebay or planning on taking these 2'' aluminum discs i came across in my garage and taking a drill press to them.
So this is my first build, I've got a 300mw 650nm diode module on the way from DTR  I've got a host I'm hoping to get ready for it's arrival, I got it for $2.95 (radioshack) as a LED/ <5mw laser that was on sale and gutted it.
I want to run 2 10440's with a dummy wire in the third slot...
Hello, I'm working on assembling my first laser and was wondering if you have the "300mW 650nm Single Mode Diode In Copper Module W/Leads & Acrylic Lens" in stock? Also, if so would this acrylic lens be sufficient or should I invest in a glass focusing lens? Thank you.

Sounds like a safer route by far. Do you have any experience with DTR's shop? They've got a 650nm with a copper housing for $21(I believe with s/h incl.), I'm not sure how I feel about the acrylic yet but that seems fair. Just trying to find a few site reviews before I take the plunge.
Hey! Nice to know you're not terribly far from me. I'm in central Florida down in Ocoee, 'bout 20-30 Miles East of Orlando.
Hey, thank you! Now, is that more or less because what Willis had pointed out earlier about not potentially killing a more expensive diode while I get my toes wet?
Hey everyone, I stumbled across this place a few days ago and couldn't resist. I'm 24 and going back to finish school after taking a break to get married and reproduce lol. Anyways, my focus is Engineering because I've always been captivated by how things work. Although I have alot of ground to...
