Holy crap , i can make one of these starting at 30 bucks. If i really want to get fancy i can buy a really expensive laser level. Things still are only as good as your eye, but i bet it gets me closer.

Im thinking this thing is already out there, i know they make levels with laser dots, how to get it to spread would be one thing, and finding the right size magnets to fit on the shiv would be the other, i just cant see it being to difficult.

Yup, its still a pretty cool tool. Ive just taken over a few accounts that have never been lined up, big 50 , 60 , 90 hp motors out drive to driven by 1/2 inch. So many hacks in my field, these things where eating belts. I have been trying to get them close but i still want them perfect...

It doesnt matter to me if it bolts on the side, im sick of using a straight edge, i feel like a hack.
