No problem, and thanks, I like it quite a bit, but you will definitely save yourself some money if you make your own laser. There are plenty of tutorials floating around. Happy laser ing :beer:
It's much harder to find pre made 405nm lasers, especially in the higher powers. If you're looking for the most bang for your buck, I would advise building it yourself. I recently built a 405nm 200mw out of a 6x blue ray diode and I spent about $60-$70 in total.
The only difference between my...
Thanks! normally my summers would be more free, but I'm taking 7 credit hours in a summer session, and working 9 hours per day on weekdays. However, I'm very much enjoying lasers as a hobby. Thanks for the support, and I'm sure I'll be back when I have the time to give costumers the attention...
Hi all, my first build is done, and I am quite happy. I used a 6x blue ray diode, rckstr microdrive, ultrafire L2 host, custom machined heatsink powered by 2 Li-ion cr123a rechargeable. I'm getting a bit of a lens flare even when focused correctly, perhaps it's because of the acrylic lens, I...
I had originally intended to see if I could get about 10 people interested, this would merit me buying some new aluminum. However, if just one or two people would like heatsinks, I think that would be a good way to get my feet wet, and have some positive references. I have some 1.125" aluminum...
Thanks for the input!
@bhwollen, I know joyrob offers quite a few different kits, which is why I wanted to see if there would be any interest left out there. If there isn't any, then no big deal. If there is and I can help people get some heat sinks they need, all the better.
@rhd Thanks for...
Hello all, I recently finished machining a heat sink for my first build (a 200mW 405nm 6x build) and I rather enjoyed it. I have seen a variety of kits and heatsinks go on sale in the forums here for a variety of prices, so I decided to send out a feeler and see what people think.
I realize...
Re: LED Shoppe 50mw 532nm pointer review
Hmm, looks like a screwed up the imbedded pictures, sorry about that, the accompanying pictures have been attached. Also, do imbedded pictures not work from a dropbox url? :wtf: sorry about the mixup.
I told some people I would post a review a while ago, but I've been busy and shipping did take a while, but let's get down to business.
My new LED Shoppe pointer arrived a couple days ago, specifically:

It took about 4 days to process the...
No problem, I hoped it would get someone on the right track. Thanks again to BB for posting additional links, if anyone has other links that might be helpful for people looking for soldering irons, please share. :)
Thanks for the links, looks like some useful tools. I was just pointing out something else I wandered across, but hopefully the links here can help someone if they happen to be looking.

While looking myself, I've found that the seemingly hardware-store-standard 40W soldering iron has been the bane of my existence. I've been on the lookout for a low power or variable power soldering iron, those diodes don't get like getting too toasty...
Thank you! I found it and thought it was great, not terribly laser related, but I felt it was still appropriate for a physics major. Oh, and I like the human bubble in your sig :D I have to get me one of those. I would assume your avatar is a ferrous fluid in a magnetic field? Very interesting...
@ meatball, great post, I'm sure this offers some great information :beer:
@hoon:
I can't say I'm an expert in the field, but I am a physics major, I will be starting my second year this fall, though I have some 65 ish credit hours from summer classes/AP ect, and I've taken some intro quantum...
