And aluminized mylar would work better than aluminum foil, but the problem would be keep it smooth while attaching it to a parabolic surface. This kid's next project is to build a super solar death ray consisting of 32,000 mirrors!
A couple of years ago there was some discussion of fresnel lenses. This kid came up with something that puts my fresnel to shame, in true Archimedes fashion:

Can't vouch for the quality, but for $35 this seems like a deal, if only for the little mounts:

Hopefully I'll be able to put them to good use!
There is a great tutorial posted below that shows you how to make your own fs mirrors. It works really well and very cheap to do! I bought a bag of 20 or so 1" glass round mirrors at a craft store and used them instead of the acrylic sheet in the video. They're perfect size for spiros...
I fly B767-ER's. Here's a cool pick of Greenland I took a few weeks ago enroute to JFK, FL370. Btw, Shrecken, I love the props you make - you got any monkeys?
I got my 100mw module last week and put it in this host today: http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10093
After you take the 5mw module out, just pop the Sandstone module in. Hotwire the switch like Jayrob shows in his build, and solder a bare wire into + hole on the driver board. This wire...
Nope, wouldn't be for a UAV as they fly way out of the small arms envelope. If it's for a US tactical weapons system, helicopters are the only CAS asset that would be flying down low since we have complete air superiority (allowing Hogs and Vipers to do their work from far above). It would be a...
I just finished a BR with the rckstr and a 4171 using 2 rechargable CR123's. Works like a champ set at 100mA, but I haven't used it much so the voltage hasn't really begun to drop in the batts. The flex drive is a better choice with that host as you don't have to worry about having to use fully...
I'm gonna get two - one to play with and the other to scalp parts out of. Btw, if this had already been posted before, I apologize. Someone sent me the site via email. Not tryin' to steal anyone's thunder :)
Unfortunately most of the replica stuff out there is made for airsoft, and doesn't tend to hold up well if you mount them on something real. The trouble I've had with them is the actual mounting hardware - after a few shots, the screws loosen up or the calibration settings get messed up. (I...
Here's a cool little toy slated to be released Summer 09:

I think this takes laser scanning to a new level, and at <$500, cheap too. Has anyone seen a demo of this thing yet?
Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER
Mike, by "load" I meant the laser PS board which gets the 28v input. On my setup this attaches to another board (the RF tuner I guess) via a 6-pin connector, which connects to the tube via the BNC.
Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER
NS, yeah there might be some bad luck but this one seems to be self-induced! Important safety tip - don't mix homebrewing and lasers!
