Saw this link on another forum (I even kept the same title). This should be a sticky and manditory watching before allowing anyone to post. Enjoy...

I purchased another PS3 module with the intent of putting it into something smaller than my last project. http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1194303946 Ideally, I was looking for a 1xAAA sized package using a boost converter. I could tweak the 1xAAA drivers to get it to lase...
So if you were wondering what's inside a DX 5mW 3xLR44 green laserpointer, wonder no more. This thing draws about 220mA on fresh LR44s (AG13). That kills the batteries in no time.
I opened it by:
1. first unscrewing the rounded top end.
2. I used a small metal rod in my drill press to push...
OK, here is a mini-review with pics of the DX100mW Red module and driver.
It is a dual driver (Red and Green). There are pots for both sides to adjust. The Red side adjusts from 75mA to 260mA drive current. I had no load for the green side so I did not test it.
Output beam size is pretty...
The title pretty well says it all. :)
Does anyone else find it annoying about the number of threads with useless thread titles?
It's a waste of time opening many of these and it makes real content very difficult to find/search for.
I must be grumpy today.
I did a little poking around and found another replacement for the LM317. The link is:
http://www.linear.com/pc/productDetail.jsp?navId=H0,C1,C1003,C1040,C1055,P38503
It's a Linear Tech LTC3080.
The voltage mode dropout is 300mV
The current mode dropout is 1.35V (plus the drop over a 1...
I posted this as a response in another thread but I think the issue merits a stand alone thread.
The discussion of driving a LED or LD with a voltage source regularly arises. Due to the electrical nature of LEDs and LDs the preferred method of driving them is with a constant current source. ...
I received the PS3 module from the group buy late last week. I had a busy weekend so this project had to wait until today (I had a day off).
I debated what host to use and what power source. Since I only ordered one assembly, I had to be extra careful not to screw it up so I opted for a safe...
Check the link and scroll down to the link "Lot - Assorted lasers". Location Ottawa, Canada. Too late date 5 Oct.

How to turn a Senkat GB LD into an open can version.
OK, I had this one in my flashlight mod. I tried using teflon tape to tighten up the thread slop in the module, but the tape became shredded and made its way down to the LD. It caused some damage to the coating on the LD window and made the...
Has anyone used teflon tape (plumbers type) to reduce thread slop on the Aixiz-type modules?
I tried it with one of my DX modules and it works quite well. All you need is a wrap or two (being careful not to get any near the aperture). I cut mine in half length-wise.

Here are some pics of a mod I have started using Senkat's GB diodes and an old 3xAAA flashlight converted to take an 18650.
Proto driver board (will be shrunk to fit in flashlight head). LDO Linear regulator (~80-250mA):

I opened up my DX Green 30mW again to get some better pics. I also ran some tests for various input voltages and measured the voltage through the 1 ohm sense resistor. Here are my results:
Vin = 2.4V -> Isense = 239mA
Vin = 3.0V -> Isense = 287mA
Vin = 3.5V -> Isense = 324mA
Vin = 4.0V ->...
My DX Modules arrived today. They were with another order, I forgot about adding them and now have another 3 on the way. Doh!
Here are some pics:
Next to a brass DX module.
The driver board has a SMD green LED on it.

I posted this in the other review thread, but I guess it belongs in this section.
First some data:
I did some voltage and current readings.
The module draws 208mA down from 6V until about 4.15V. At that point the current continues to drop as it falls out of regulation.
So that means at...
Here's a link to a thread I just started on CPF. I had to open up my Dx 30mW green. :)

I tried a divergence measurement with my DX 30mW green. I am fairly unfamiliar with doing this so I thought I would run it by you so see if it was done properly.
My target was 430.5 inches (10934.5mm) away from the front opening of the laser. The spot measured 7mm at the target and 2.5mm at...
