Seeing all the posts regarding FDA's crack down on laser hobbyists, I wonder whether it would also be illegal to buy ONE laser pointer (power > 5mW) during an overseas trip and bring it IN PERSON to US? Would it be considered as a personal belonging and for "personal use" and not confiscated?
Armlaser, what is the focal length of the following 400mw 808nm laser pointer?

I am curious regarding the visibility of a green laser beam with a long-distance focus ie more or less parallel beams. I know that especially for green lasers with power greater than 50mW or so, the beam is very visible in low light conditions, but this is from the holder's point of view. How...
One of the laser diodes I have is said to have a beam divergence of 12/40 degrees. What does this mean and how much is this when translated into mrads ?
It was around US$100.
I thought of the same solution too, but I am not much of a DIY'er so is there anywhere I can buy a readily available adjustable focus that fits ?
No, i am afraid the lens is secured to the host. Is it not possible to add another lens on top of it ?
Can't post the link to site where I got it from it says I've got less than 10 posts.....
I have a 808nm 1W laser pointer as shown below. Its focus is fixed but I would like to be able to adjust it. Can somebody point directions about how this could be possible ?
Thanks to everybody for the heads up about the googles, but now I am confused. Am I supposed to wear goggles even when I am not looking directly into the laser beam (which of course I never do)? Does the reflection of 1W 808nm beam off a non-mirror surface like a wall or something still...
My 1000mW 808nm IR laser has a slightly visible (red) rectangular-shaped output. The specs of the laser says that the wavelength is 808 nm +/- 3 nm. Isn't 808nm way above visibility range?
Re: Danger from IR leakage from lasers vs IR heate
Thanks for the infornation. It's hard to imagine that a laser of say 100mW can be more dangerous than an IR radiator of 1000 Watts.....the difference is in the order of 1E6 x 1E3 x 1E-2= 1E7.....10 millions times more power.....yet it's the...
Re: Danger from IR leakage from lasers vs IR heate
If "focus" is the criteria, then the visible beam (red, green or whatever) emitted by the laser is already quite dangerous isn't it? Why is there an emphasis on an IR filter ?
