There is one other thing, if your paper is white a lot of energy is being reflected and not absorbed. Try black paper, or color a spot on the paper black and try again.
That is actually an awesome idea lol! You could rate it by balloons popped per second and time it took to pop at a set standard distance, complete it with a link to a YouTube video of the laser passing its' function test, a line of balloons!

Well I am a bit of an ubergeek, always boring my wife with whatever I am excited about at the moment. Retro-gaming, calculator watches (Pulsar LED Calculator watch by Time Computer Inc :drool: ) modding electronics, various minor physics/science experiments, Minecraft and of course lasers...
I get a little paranoid, but I always make sure I'm not breaking any laws. I mostly use my low power green for star watching with my boys, and then occasionally I'll bring out a big daddy to shoot some low clouds.
I don't worry to much about cops seeing me, more than I worry about anyone in...
