even if it is 5.5v and you run it at 3.4v then you should be ok, you wont blow it if you go under the max rating, its always good start lower and your way up than to start to high and be screwed.
yea the luxeons have a silicone diffuser on the LED module, so do CREEs, i haven't been able to closer inspect a CREE yet to see if its the exact same, and i don't have any that I'm willing to take of the silicone to see what happens
yea, its kinda sad though, im sure most of his projects work, but some of them, not so much. he does all the online videos for Make Magazine, so you know hes pullin in the bucks

the driver he used, isn't the schematic from a comment on his indestructible? someone said it wouldn't work without a driver and posted a schematic. and if i remember correctly the person who posted the comment was someone from the forums.
