Sorry I haven't been seeing updates to this thread for some reason.

Cheech -- Can you confirm with me that the short purple wire is not broken/disconnected? This may be hard to find. It's the "CDRH Loop" and is used for interlock. It's short and might be heat-shrunk in with the main wires coming out of the PSU.

And, for sure nothing is obstructing the beam shutter, right? (I know, elementary - you see a mirror when you look into the tube, right?)

I would REALLY ASK that you ask Ken to swap out the PSU FIRST before sending the whole head back.

I -doubt- it's the head, and your likelihood of getting another one of these is... low. (Power supplies, not so much. I won't say they're a dime a dozen, but they're not hard to get.) - By the way, this isn't a threadjack anymore, as the GreeNe's from Ken are no longer available.

I'll take a picture here when I can, when I get home, of my wiring of my MG PS. It wasn't hard. But I still do NOT think you should send the head back yet. Please let me know when you've read this :)

jerry, qumefox any ideas ?

Your 120VAC Ground is still the 3rd connection from the left
For some reason they are floating the Electrical ground a bit
higher than Chassis ground.

I don't know why before seeing some schematics...

Yes that is the sequence of hookup.
If you are worried about getting a shock you could
test the metal case to a wall ground with your DMM
set to 200ACV or higher.

There should be no potential between a wall ground
and the PS metal case. They should be at the same
electrical potential.

Yeah I have all the stuff to build a single color scanner, I just lack the workspace right now until I get carpet down in the extra room and get some workbenches put in.

I have everything but the time and workspace. heh And both of those will likely become available roughly at the same time I think, as I get other projects finished.

Guys,

Since JDSU has taken the spec sheet off of their site for these lasers, and even in searches a 1600-series spec sheet including the 1676 is almost impossible to find, I'm attaching the spec sheet here for further reference.

Cheech: Any luck on the MG? I hope you haven't returned the head, I still think it's ok!!

Just talked to JDSU on the phone. Quote:

"Everything but red is now discontinued. We do not have back-stock, we only provide red."

Never said i'd get them, just need them heh.

Didn't Sam have a 1677 for sale at SELEM though? Or was that a MG head... Not that I have money or anything though. :(

A little hint Qumefox.... I wouldn't put Carpet in an area
where I do electronics...;)

I have open flame gas heat.. Trust me.. static is NOT an issue in this house... at ANY time of year.. The humidity rarely gets below 70% in the house... ever :p

Other than that.. I've found dropped things don't travel nearly as far on carpet. heh.
