Pot stuck in host?

Hey there. I bought a cheap 50mW for the purpose of pot modding. I've heard a lot about it and thought I would try it. When I took the top off, the diode was still in the host, and the metal cap had come off. I can't put my pictures because I'm on an iPhone, and the lpf app has mysteriously disappeared from the app store. Is there any way I can get the diode out of their? It's a standard pen style laser off of amazon.
<-------- The laser is identical to this one.

I guess you didn't hear or didn't read that the consensus
of the Forum is that Pot Modding is not a good idea if you
don't want your Laser to turn into a useless stick...

I guess as usual you skimmed over the actuall post just so you could post yet another useless snide comment aimed at me.

When are you going to get over it? I simply asked a question.

Oh, and the laser still works fine, and you can put the top back on.

If the Pot is stuck just inhale through the tail cap while you heat with a lighter from the front....;)

Seriously though save yourself some money and dont mess with it. If you want more power buy a more powerful laser.

Blarg. This was a $10 underspec 50mW from amazon. I bought it specifically for experimenting.

I never said I knew more than any of you, nor did I imply it. I am a total noob at this. BUT, I already knew that screwing the potentiometer would eventually kill the diode.

I never imagined that people could be so high and mighty about themselves. I'm 100% sure you didn't know everything when YOU started.

EDIT: thanks for the reply Helious. I don't have a lighter handy (ive got a no smoke policy) but I think that might damage the diode.

See those red squares on the left side of your posts? See how some NEW members do not have those and even have green ones?

This isnt a forum wide conspiracy against you....the way you approach things is obviously not well received. Either you need to change the expectations of the thousands of members here OR change the way you go about posting. One might be harder than the other.

If you buff up the lens on your laser with high gain snake oil, then it will increase its optical transfer efficiency by about 27%. :)

Omg, I've got to try that. By lense do you mean the price of glass/ plastic on the diode?

No, do not get it anywhere near the actual diode as this can cause the streams to become crossed and you really don't want to cross the streams… It would be bad. :yh:

best mod for this kind of laser is to keep it stock, use decent batteries, and clean the lens. Use isopropyl 91% and a cotton swab.

If you want more power, read around in the green lasers section and you'll see suggestions and sticky threads that will lead you in the right direction.

Pot modding used to work in earlier pointers. Now they are mostly set to the max power capability of the unit. So all you are doing is creating more heat on the crystals, and burning the laser up.

Dude you really need to do some reading. This is all basic info. Thats why people are getting mad at you. This forum is more of a science forum than a chat forum. So when someone signs up, and asks questions they could of easily found themselves, it pisses people off. We all do our own homework here. Questions are OK, but no one is going to spoon feed info to people. You wont learn anything that way. If you dont want to learn anything, and just want to screw with some cheap lasers, then you are in the wrong place my friend.

Exactly this ^^^^ I actually like helping new members who at least attempt to do it on their own first.

Right on. You can tell immediately if they want to learn, or if they are just curious. With n 18K membership its imposable to educate the curious ones. We try to look out for the ones who want to get into the hobby, and then spend our time helping them. The difference between the curious, and the dedicated can be told by the questions they ask. A dedicated member will always know more than the curious because they put in the time to study.
