Hello LPF users, I am very nervous, as I have noticed a couple of black spots in my vision, one for each eye, I don't own any safety goggles, yet, but I also don't remember getting a direct hit, although close maybe a couple of times (reflections) The strange thing is they both seem to be in the same part of both eyes, ( On right side, upper right perif, on left side upper left perif,"mirrored") But they don't seem to completely block vision, they seem to just "cloud" small areas, they appear black but almost transparent, I am 15 and nearsighted, and I read that nearsighted people get floaters at a young age So I don't know if maybe a close call and a panic attack led me to find these floaters, or If maybe I am perceiving the natural "blind spot", or if maybe the worst has occurred :cryyy: Please post and give me your insight I will try to provide as much info as possible. They don't really bother me but If I look for them I can find them....
Thank You~
Marc

EDIT: But the strange thing is, in any of those close calls I'm almost positive I didn't feel any pain..... It should of felt like staring at the sun right?

No pain is felt. 100mW of reflected light would be more than enough. Stop talking to us and go to the opthalmologist. Tell him/her of your fear.

Peace,
dave

I can't just go, as I am 15, you read mfo's thread maybe I have a similar problem? But still, thank you for your input. Is it possible I am just more aware, because of the laser use, and dangers?

You should really visit your opthalmologist. Until then, you won't get rid of your fear. I don't say you got damaged but you can't find out for sure if you don't ask an opthalmologist. :)

Ok, Upon reading mfo's thread I truly think they may be like a floater type deal but I am paranoid as all hell.... Thanks for your input

If you have any concern at all, go to an eye doctor. Floaters don't look like black spots at all - they are grey tranclucent floaty things

Well... the way I see it is this...

1) You can stay paranoid and feel fearful...

2) You can diagnose yourself and stay Paranoid and fearful

3) You can see an Ophthalmologist (eye doctor) and get rid
of your Paranoia and fears.

BTW... I can't see why you can't see an Ophthalmologist because
you are 15...

Well then maybe it's better to go blind...

Although his parents might get a clue when he starts
bumping into the furniture...

... This is when a girl gets pregnant and doesn't go to the hospital because she doesn't want her parents to know. Stupidest thing ever.

Since my parents found out that lasers can hurt your eyes they don't want me buying them any more. I thought they already knew, I even bought some laser protection goggles.

My mother tells me to stop making lasers all the time. So does my fiance.

I tell them that isn't going to happen.

Yes, this is what they look like:undecided: and, yes I don't exactly want my parents to find out because they don't like the laser to begin with, I would describe them almost exactly as mfo described them in his thread...
EDIT: and no they are in my peripheral I don't notice them at all unless I really look for them.
EDIT 2: the best way to describe them is as Dark gray blotches that I can see through, although kind of cloudy, not a complete spot of blindness, a cloud, is how I would describe it...

If you don't want your parents to find out, see if their is a FREE CLINIC near where you live. Call them, tell them your problem, & ask if they have the equipment for an examination of your eyes. If they don't, ask if they know of a FREE EYE CLINIC near by.
Just my $00.02..............rob
