Default CurtisOliver's Collection

Hi everyone. I thought I'd at least claim the fourth spot in this section
Images and specifications will be put on in the future.

I start with the ones that I can add details for.

Portables

WL Arctic Spyder SIII G2 1W Portable

This was my first ever class 4, and at the time I was very impressed with it. I was safety conscious, but when it came down to the details I was a noob. I regret it, but I believed the power output to be what it said it was, and that it was the most powerful handheld at the time. Just proves, that this forum and a bit of self directed research can help you leave behind your noob days

The laser operates at around 750mW in high power mode.
It has a multimode driver, with low, low strobe, high, high strobe, and SOS. This is based on what I can remember.

Wavelength: 445nm
Power: 714mW [LPM] (stated 1000mW)
Beam Size: 5x2mm
Divergence: 1.5mRad
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Multimode
Type: Diode
Power Input: 3.7V 18650

Rick Trent 9mm NDB7A75 Diode Portable

When I found out about the 9mm diodes, I just had to have one. Their increased power compared to the M140, urged me to buy from Rick Trent.

I am still happy with this laser to date, despite having NUBM44's.
This laser also has a multimode driver, with high, low, high strobe, low strobe.
The only issue I have had with this laser, is that the tail switch is becoming harder to cycle through the modes due to wear.

Wavelength: 445nm
Power: ~3500mW (Untested)
Beam Size: tbc
Divergence: tbc
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Multimode
Type: Diode
Power Input: 2x 3.7V 18650's (7.4V)

Maplin 1mW Green Laser Pointer

This was my first ever laser pointer. And i got immediately hooked to lasers ever since. This is also the first laser I have tweaked.
The laser no longer runs at 1mW. It has a power limiter inside so if you cut the power to it, the laser becomes unregulated.
The issues I have with these lasers is the lens. It is incredibly easy to scratch the lens when cleaning. Because of this, I no longer have a clean dot.

Wavelength: 532nm
Power: 3.2mW [LPM - Low Battery, need retest] ~10mW (stated 1mW )
Beam Size: 1.5mm
Divergence: 2mRad
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Single Mode
Type: DPSS
Power Input: 2x 1.5V AAA's (3.0V)

Generic Chinese Green Pointer with caps

Basic 532nm pointer with various end caps. I haven't tested this laser with fresh batteries yet, so am not sure of it's capable power. But I know roughly, with used batteries it is putting out 10mW. This laser was a gift, so I do not know much about it. This laser does not have a IR filter.

Wavelength: 532nm
Power: ~5mW [Untested]
Beam Size: tbc
Divergence: tbc
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Single Mode
Type: DPSS
Input Power: 3.7V 18650

Generic eBay Green Pointer Ours™

This laser was given to me by a friend as he didn't want to keep it. He had asked me to evaluate the laser, to check whether or not it was safe. When I confirmed that the laser was dangerously overspec (like most eBay pointers) he decided it would be best for me to keep it. The laser most surprisingly does have a IR filter, all be it not a good one. Some IR leakage is apparent, but not as much as others I have come across. The only problem I have with this laser is the spring connection to the battery. It is at an angle and I often have to realign the spring to make contact with the battery.

Wavelength: 532nm
Power: 35.2mW [LPM] (Stated 5mW)
Beam Size: 2mm
Divergence: 1.5mRad
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Single Mode
Type: DPSS
Input Power: 2x 1.5V AAA's (3.0V)

"5000mw" Chinese Green Laser Pointer SDLaser 302

I brought this laser not for it's stated power (obviously ) but because I knew that I was going to get a good deal on a 18650 powered 532nm laser.

Wavelength: 532nm
Power: 130mW [LPM] (Stated 5000mW)
Beam Size: 3mm
Divergence: 1.5mRad
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Single Mode
Type: DPSS
Input Power: 3.7V 18650

Dragon Lasers Aurora 5mW DPSS Portable

This laser is the first "exotic" laser I came about owning. When the 589's came out I wanted one badly. I am very happy with the Aurora. It is definitely overspec, but need to LPM as I am sure it goes beyond what I believe it to be. The only things to note with this laser is that it sometimes mode hops before stabilising at TEM00. The other is the fact it takes CR2 batteries, which don't last me that long.

Wavelength: 589nm
Power: 10.6mW [LPM-Need longer test] (Stated 5mW)
Beam Size: 2.5mm
Divergence: 1.5mRad
Transverse Mode: TEM00 (sometimes mode hops to TEM01)
Longitudinal Mode: Single Mode
Type: DPSS
Input Power: 3.0V CR2

Dragon Lasers Spartan 50mW DPSS Portable

This is by far one of my favourites, and is probably my favourite out of the portables I own. Just like the Aurora, it is overspec. Unlike the Aurora though, it uses a 18650 and doesn't mode hop. The best thing about this laser for me is the glorious 589nm beam it outputs. I don't have any problems with this laser. It even comes with a lens cap to lessen the risk of dust and contaminants effecting the lens.

Wavelength: 589nm
Power: 55mW [LPM-Battery low, need retest] (Stated 50mW)
Beam Size: 3mm
Divergence: 1.5mRad
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Single Mode
Type: DPSS
Input Power: 3.7V 18650

Laserlands 5mW Diode Portable

This laser is one that was given out free by Laserlands to test. Thank you It is a brilliant laser. For more information please take a look at my review. link

Wavelength: 520nm
Power: 6.2mW [LPM] (Stated 5mW)
Beam Size: 4.06x1.2mm
Divergence: -1.027x0.381mRad
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Multimode
Type: Diode
Input Power: 3.7V 16340

& 3 Generic Red Laser Pointers.

Labs

DTR 900mW BDR-209 16X Diode LAB/OEM

I was pleasantly surprised by this laser at how easily it burns. Due to it's great beam characteristics and single mode, it is a great distance burner. 405nm is a odd wavelength as it is on the edge of our eyes capabilities, it is difficult to focus on the dot at a distance. It is also very good at fluorescing objects like a intense UV torch.

Wavelength: 405nm
Power: 847mW [LPM] (stated 900mW)
Beam Size: tbc
Divergence: tbc
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Single Mode
Type: Diode
Input Power: 5V 2A (10W) Adapter

B1000 Laser Diode Module LAB/OEM

I originally brought this module to be part of a RGB system as I needed a mains powered blue module. The laser is stronger and has a better beam profile than that of my WL Arctic so I am happy with this little module.

Wavelength: 445nm
Power: 883mW [LPM] (Stated 1000mW)
Beam Size: 4x1.75mm
Divergence: 0.5x1.6mRad
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Multimode
Type: Diode
Input Power: 12V 1A (12W) Adapter

DTR 6W NUBM44 Diode LAB/OEM

This is by far one of the scariest lasers I own. It is a brilliant close range burner, and I have a video which I am trying to locate of me burning though nearly 30cm of insulation foam end to end. The only problem with this laser is its divergence. I am lucky enough to own two of these, but one needs to be connected to a driver. When I have time I am going to combine both of them together, and I should be looking at around 12W after losses. Edit: Also has made burn marks in the corner of my LPM sensor.

Wavelength: 450nm
Power: 7010mW [LPM] (stated 6000mW)
Beam Size: tbc
Divergence: tbc
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Multimode
Type: Diode
Input Power: 12V 4A (48W) Adapter

DTR 4W NUBM07E Diode LAB/OEM

I also have two of these diodes as well for the same purpose of combining them. I should expect around 8W after losses. When these diodes came out I was immediately excited by the wavelength and power. Not only was the wavelength exotic, but the power was too. The colour is fantastic next to a 450nm. It is a true blue. The laser has better divergence than the NUBM44 also.

Wavelength: 465nm
Power: #1) 3740mW [LPM] (stated 4000mW) #2) 2310mW [LPM] (Stated 4000mW)
Beam Size: tbc
Divergence: tbc
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Multimode
Type: Diode
Input Power: 9V 3A (27W) Adapter

Styropyro 300mW CNI DPSS LAB/OEM

I highly anticipated the arrival of this laser from Styropyro as I have always wanted a DPSS light blue. The wavelength is amazing and is surprising how different it still is to that of a 465nm. I also was happy to recieve a higher power module. As the prices are still so high for 473's. I have some work to do on this laser, as it seems to clipping the beam on one side. Other than that I am very happy with this new addition.

Wavelength: 473nm
Power: 247mW [LPM] (stated 300mW)
Beam Size: tbc
Divergence: tbc
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Single Mode
Type: DPSS
Input Power: tbc

G500 DPSS Laser Module (Upgraded) LAB/OEM

This laser was originally brought for the RGB system I was building. I had planned to buy 500mW, but the manufacturer had a very weird question for me. It was brought too long ago to find the original email, but the whole idea was that they had stopped producing the model of laser that I had purchased, and instead would I be happy with them supplying a 800mW version instead. Of course it was a really difficult decision to make. 300mW for free, did you really have to ask.
The laser still has g500 on the label, but I haven't LPM'd it yet so it can either be 500mw or 800mW. The laser is incredibly bright, so I believe it is nearer to 800mW than 500mW. I have put an image on to show it's brightness. Edit: After LPM testing I believe the seller did in fact give me a 500mW model. Weird.

Wavelength: 532nm
Power: 592mW [LPM] (stated 500mW)
Beam Size: 2.5mm
Divergence: 1.3mRad
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Single Mode
Type: DPSS
Input Power: tbc

R1000 Laser Diode Module LAB/OEM

This laser was brought to complete the set for my RGB.
It is also nice to own a powerful red, as this wavelength is most common in little laser pointers only capable of 1mW. It has a wide beam, which makes for nice viewing in the dark. The most puzzling thing about this laser is its divergence. The fast axis is 2.5mRad making it quite fast at diverging, but its slow axis works out at -1.0mRad. The laser converges and then spreads back out. It is the only laser in my collection that does that.

Wavelength: 650nm
Power: 1000mW [Untested]
Beam Size: 7x7mm
Divergence: -1.0x2.5mRad
Transverse Mode: TEM00
Longitudinal Mode: Multimode
Type: Diode
Input Power: 240V

I'll continue to add my lasers over time.

Multiple Wavelength Beamshots

445nm and 650nm.

445,532,589 and 650nm.

532nm and 589nm.

Can't rep you yet but you really did a great job describing them. I would never be able to do that. It wasn't til much later in my builds that I started labeling what is really in a build.

Thank you Brucemir,
I love my lab's as well. No battery limitations and they have a nice stable beam. I enjoy them a lot.

Hi.
You say something about the bad divergence of a laser.I think that there is some beam expander, which can improve this.
Am I wright?

Hi Theodore, been away for a while. Yes you can beam expand, but the best fix for this laser is cylindrical lenses. The beam of the NUBM44 is powerful but divergent. Thanks anyway.
