Multiple Power Setting Interlock Plug Idea

While reading through another thread I got an idea.
What if instead of having a host with a driver with a set resistance we just wired the driver board to a 2.5mm headphone jack at the solder points for the resistor/pot. We could then wire the resistor to the plug. This way we could have multiple outputs and driver would not work without it and this would function as a interlock at the same time. Maybe we could even find a more proprietary plug to avoid someone trying to put in a mini headphone jack (even though that shouldn't complete a circuit anyway). Has someone tried this?

I'm not to good with circuitry and electronics quite yet. Are you wanting to make it so our drivers are kind of a plug-an-play kinda deal? Like just be able to plug in our different drivers and use them interchangeably between lasers?

I really like this idea as it would be easy to put a driver into a big heatsink and just plug it in whenever we want. It would also cut down on having to buy a new driver for every laser that we wanted

Sounds like you'd keep the same driver but have a little plug of some sort with the current set resistor on it that you change to change the current. That way you could have the current set "external" to the host with a little socket on the host.

This is exactly what I mean.

Cool idea Trend. It could probably work okay, but I don't know how safe or desirable it would be.

I'm waiting for a good hobbyist digital programmable driver though. Probably could make one if I had time. One thing WL actually has going for it...

A new driver is coming soon. I have some enroute to me actually from x wosee that will have an extrenal pot option. You just solder up to 3 pads for your pot and have variable adjustment from it.. or leave it off and bridge then use the "maximum" pot on the pcb.

What type of driver? Boost or Buck? What size and shape? Price? I couldn't find the user you are speaking of as well. Who?

Buck driver

Look up 8a driver NUBM08.. it should show up in ebay. Otherwise I'll have some on hand in the next week to test and then I'll get some on hand to sell you guys.
