Default Mechanical Mod Advice?

Hi everyone,
Just going to apologize in advance for being really un-knowledgeable about how lasers work. I've just been buying pre made ones, but now I think I'm ready to try to build one. (Using the word "build" really loosely here.)

The reason I'm posting in the Laser Hosts section is because I want to try one of the mechanical mod vape builds, where you just buy a threaded module with diode, driver, and lens from DTRs shop, and screw it into the mech mod with batteries.

The diode that I'm looking at is the NUBM07E but since it's pretty expensive I really don't want to mess this up.

Basically, does anyone have advice as to which mech mod would be a good one to buy, and is it really as simple as screwing the module into the mod?

Also, DTR's page says about this diode "(Use with 7-9V or two 3.7V Li-Ions!!!)" There's no way I can run it with a single 18650? That's what most of the mechanical mods seem to hold.

Lastly, the datasheet for NUBM07E says it puts out 2.9 watts of power; how can I tone this down?

Thanks in advance

Why tone it down?
You need 2 16340's and yes, Just screw it in. If ya want less power, Just order your driver under powered.

2*16340s may not work in the mech mod host depending on what type of mech mod you use, some of them are strictly regulated to output 4.2v regardless. As VV said - Why tone it down? If you'd like lower power you should probably go for a lower powered diode rather than to underpower a higher powered one.

Hi,
I built plenty and most of them will take 2-18350's .
theres a mod called the copper penny is good and look for some side fires easier the manipulate by hand. Remember those 510 sinks get hot fast so keep the diode down to a reasonable WL and output. 2W;s tops for these safety for the diode,1.8mA driver . Single modes are awesome for these sinks ..

I have to say I am really liking the CF ASPIRE mods. Picked up a couple after seeing them in this thread.
Mech Mods and DTR laser can

Love the side button and the button that lights up. It can be a bit of a squeeze to fit the two AW IMR 16340's in it but it will run the NUBM07E unit great and looks good.
Nabbed a few pictures from that thread and put them on this page.

Safest best is a telescopic mechanical mod. They are strictly Mechanical and will work with any head, allowing you either a single 18650 or two 18350.

Be careful with the voltage and amp units, some of them will not work with some of the laser head/drivers - there is a thread on that somewhere on here.

Get IMR batteries

Hi Jordan,
Yes they are great the CF Aspire mods i have 3 of them and they work great with your 510 sinks. And i can use two 18350's or 16340's in them. And your 510 's are great for modding the ground wire solid to.

I want to tone it down because of what Lifetime said about the 510 threaded sinks getting hot fast, "2W tops for the safety of the diode."
Just screwing it in seems way too easy

How can I tell if the mech mod that I want to order is regulated to output a certain voltage no matter what? And the reason I'm attached to this diode is more the pretty 465nm color than the power.

Copper sounds wonderful. So regardless, way of turning the laser on/off is part of the actual mod, correct?
Thanks for your advice about the 510 heatsink, that's what I'm nervous about. But DTR sells the NUBM07E in the 510 sink so it must be okay, right? I guess the thing to do is request a 1.8mA driver instead of the one that comes with it. (3.5A???)

You should be able to just meter the thread input thing at the end (where you screw the module in) of the mech mod, but just be sure not to short it out. Put one lead on the outside part, and on the inside contact. If it's at 4.2v with a lower voltage li-ion, then chances are it's regulated to 4.2v.

That makes sense, thank you. Any way to tell before purchasing the mech mod though haha

Lots of the cheap ones on aliexpress don't have too much info in their descriptions.

Telescopic mechanical mods have pieces that allow a greater range of size in the battery compartment by unscrewing the pieces further than in a normal case mod

Usually 2 18350s or some other combination of batteries. Some have taken a telescopic mech mod and added a couple more pieces to it and even put in 2 of the 18650 batteries.

Standard mechanical mods will usually only fit 18650

BTW the 18650 or 18350 - 18 is the diameter in mm's, the 650 or 350 is the length in 10th's of a mm (not always exact) so a 650 is about 65 mm long and a 18350 is about 35 mm long FYI!

So a 10440 is 10 mm diameter and 44 mm long

When you say Mech mod that generally means unregulated mod. If you see VV/VW/TC those are regulated devices.

Yea it will work just fine. Just a shorter duty cycle the higher the power. Would suggest 15 seconds on 45 off.

Yea they are great and regardless which mech mod you go with be sure to get the proper cells. The ones I recommend are the AW IMR 16340 and only buy from an authorized dealer.

The housing extends usually so you can go from a 18350 size to an 18650 but usually will expand enough to get two 18350's in where with most that are fit for just an 18650 two 16340's will be the largest option.

So a 10440 is 10 mm diameter and 44 mm long

Yea it will work just fine. Just a shorter duty cycle the higher the power. Would suggest 15 seconds on 45 off.
Yep, I did figure that out after reading the entire original thread for these vape mod builds. What's your recommendation, something with variable voltage/wattage or a pure mechanical mod?

About the duty cycles: if you suggest 15/45 for the 2.9W NUBM07E, what would your recommendations be for the 2W M462 or the 1.4W
NDB7675 in these mech mod sinks?

Comes in either 18650 or 26650.

Blue Series MOSFET Box Mod Dual 18650 | eBay
I have one like this.

Im not sure if the pwm box mods will play nice with the driver.

I usually search for seres box mods. I found the mech mod searching for 26650 mods.

Batteries great for this application. You wont be pulling 10 amps and they are rated for continuous@ 10 amps.
