Hey,

I really wanna do a build in a gun host... But I don't know of the possibility... Not only do I need to find something useable... I need to get it past Aussie customs... They are gonna see something in the shape of a rifle or a 9mm show up straight away! Any thoughts on this?

Unless you can get one locally, don't see it happening unless you're lucky enough to have it slip past customs, but that's highly unlikely. Not to mention you'd probably have a bit of an issue if you get caught even just holding it :p

Hmm, Good point... It wouldn't end up being worth having.. But it'd still be interesting to do.

Well you could buy an Arisoft gun and then install a laser into it

That is probably the best way to go, or if you don't have those in Australia then find something similar like an air gun or a toy of some kind that would be usable as a host. Then have one of the machinists here make you a custom heat sink and then order the other parts separate and build your laser. Other members here have done it with a toy gun and then there are also the Star Trek phaser replicas.

Or, he could move to a country that doesn't infringe on his basic human rights... :twak:

Where would that be? I hope you haven't been in too remote a place for so long that you are out of touch with what is going on in the rest of the country.

Could you have each part of the gun host shipped separately? Would they catch onto that? I can't imagine that you wouldn't be allowed to buy a replica of a real gun...?

There are ways and there are ways, I shipped something legal here but forbidden to a friend in Australia some years ago and it went right through without a problem when it appeared to be something else :p

That said, in your country, a gun replica sounds like asking for bigggg trouble. A modified Star Trek phaser is very cool and sounds like a good alternative, but I guess that is still trouble too, if you have a illegal power level laser diode in it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsI-yuoQoc0

Soap box whine: By the way, how did your people let the politicians take away so many liberties? Being stupid like we are in the USA today? I'm hearing a lot of anti-gun commercials on the radio lately, always involving children, you know the powers that be are getting desperate to take them away once they start bringing children into any subject as the reason to do so, oh, for the children we must! For the children I think we must NOT! Can I have this opinion even if I don't own one?

Yes, that's the reason I am for keeping guns in the hands of the common people, once oppressive governments (maybe I should write pre-oppressive) governments get the weapons away from the people, historically that's when millions die from the hands of their own government when they get too far out of hand, too confident they can do what they want after the weapons are taken, it seems. Then the deaths come when the people realize their governments are out of control, they eliminate the problem by killing those who won't go along with them.

They started out as a penile colony in New South Wales, they are used to having their liberties taken away, it is Darwinian evolution, it's genetic now. A camp was set up and the flag raised at Sydney Cove, Port Jackson, on 26 January 1788, a date which became Australia's national day, Australia Day, The first settlement led to the foundation of Sydney, the establishment of farming, industry and commerce; and the exploration and settlement of other regions. Unfortunately they never reached their full potential.

Excuse me for being blunt but if they won't stand up for basic human rights and freedom then they are a bunch of panty waste wussies. Anyone who puts up with whatever those in power decide to do to them deserve whatever they get. They started as a penile colony let them end as one if that's what they want. Here in the US we won't sit still for what's happening here. I fear we are going to have some big problems soon. While our warmongering leaders try to distract everyone by leading us toward a war with Russia. You people in the EU and NATO countries better wake up and watch closely because you may not be left out of the fun.

No insult is intended toward all Australians, and certainly not Things or Moistenator, I am sure they are are people of good character and above average intelligence or they would not likely be here on LPF.

America isn't what is was, we are now Amerika. It's sad, but if push comes to shove and this country needs help to fight to preserve our freedoms as they were, I am willing to give everything I have in that effort, that's where I'm at anymore and from what I see there are more like me than our current Federal government powers understand. It seems they are becoming the enemy more than any threat from Russia today. I'm not afraid of Russia at all, the capability of the fascist government we have today with people like Obama at the helm does scare me.

The reality is so, it seems. The more this kind of thing continues, the quicker our system will come to a crash. Studying history, this is the natural cycle, in time the corruption of getting something for nothing rises to the point it becomes too costly to maintain and countries fall.

Stupidest comment ever.

Remind me, which article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is it that reads "Everyone has the right to a gun and a laser." ?

Anyone stupid enough to confuse owning a gun, or a laser, with basic human rights, is exactly the type of stupid human being that shouldn't be allowed within a hundred feet of either.

I'll tell you one basic human right that we ARE all entitled to, "security of the person", and there's a whole lot more of that in Australia than in Arkansas.

It reads: Every animal has the right to defend itself by whatever means necessary to ensure its survival.
You can prance around all day preaching about how people are safe in their gun free zones and we're all better off without owning guns. Guess what? If you get attacked by one or more men, you stand a good chance of being seriously injured or killed. Guess what stops an attacker dead in his tracks? A .45 caliber bullet entering his chest cavity. Do you know what doesn't stop an attacker? Shouting for them to stop, pleading, begging, hoping the police show up, praying for it to stop, etc. When an attack can happen in seconds, police are only minutes away.
By the way, I say I have the right to carry a gun and a laser because I DO have the right to carry a gun and a laser. I live in Alaska, not Arkansas. Alaska let's people carry whatever the hell we want. I typically carry a switchblade, a butterfly knife, a pistol, a laser, a flashlight (or two), a lighter, a pen, a thumb drive, my keys, my cellphone and my wallet wherever I go. I got stopped by a cop once. Do you know what happened? He let me go (even after I told him what weapons I had on me). He didn't need to see them. He didn't even care. I don't need a permit. I can conceal anything I can carry out in the open and nobody has the right to stop me. I'm not special. I don't work for the government. I am just an average Alaskan citizen who will not stand for ever being defenseless.
I have pity for people who either don't know how, or aren't allowed to take care of themselves. When you start relying on outside support (anything other than what you have) you lose. Sooner, or later, the day will come when you will wish you were better prepared.

Your argument that carrying weapons makes people safer would be a whole lot more plausible if your country didn't have the highest gun related homicide rate of any developed nation on this planet.

I've seen statistic both ways, ones proving we are safer with guns and ones which say we aren't. One thing for sure, an armed society is a polite society, if enough of us are. The idiots who don't care or criminals not withstanding on that comment :p

Cite your source. Show me a credible unbiased piece of literature that has concluded you are safer if you have easier access to guns.

Although I'm not sure what statistics you need beyond these two FACTS:
- the United States has the highest rate of gun ownership per capita of any developed nation
- the United States has the highest number of gun related homicides per capita of any developed nation

Sorry, but listening to Americans argue that their guns make them safer is kind of like hearing Michael Moore argue that eating lots of food keeps him thin.
