Hello LPF'ers

I have decided to make a contest focused on designing the best host for a 9mm diode. I will be the judge, because I am going to have the host built and turn it into a hell of a laser.

Some rules:

1. The host has to be feasible.
2. The host cannot cost more than 200 dollars to fabricate(I think that is a lot of room to work with).
3. The host needs to balance aesthetics with battery runtimes and heatsinking capabilities.
4. Tail switch needs to be nice, both tactically and aesthetically.
5. To submit your entry, post a picture of your sketch up and the key details(battery config, etc). If you have more pictures and details you would like to share, you can email me with those to my email(PM me for it) and I will consider those part of your entry.

*ALL DESIGNS RECEIVED WILL REMAIN THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGNER. ANY HOSTS CREATED FROM THE AFOREMENTIONED DESIGNS WILL INCLUDE LAUDE TO ITS CREATOR.

The reward:

I have not yet decided on a reward, but some thoughts include:
1. A CNI GLP 532nm pointer.
2. A 515nm LaserBtB pointer.

3. A host commission(if you are a machinist).
4. A diode, or multiple diodes.
5. 25 dollars wired to your Paypal Account of choice or the forum.

For the rewards I am trying to pull from what I already own since I have limited funds, but if the host is badass enough I might do an M140 diode or something around the 40-50 dollar range.

Of Note:

I normally design my own hosts and then relay what I want to my machinist of choice but lately I have experienced some creative block. Single cell builds will probably not work due to the resulting need for a 2.3A capable boost driver. I love ***y hosts, and anything that has great lines to it stands a strong chance of winning. I don't care much at all for assault focus adapters, typically I prefer more subtle touches on the aperture.

I hope this gets a lot of people involved because frankly I would love to see what we as a forum can come up with.

UPDATE

I have reached a bit of a tie. I am stuck between Eudaimonium's Entry and TheDukeAnumber1's Entry. Here are pics of each:

I have added a poll and will keep the poll open for a 6 days. Please vote. 1st place will receive 20 dollars, 2nd place will receive 10 dollars.

Thanks,
Isaac

Re: Host Design Contest

I have been thinking about that today. I am thinking a month but if there are no entries I like by then I would keep it open until entries I like are submitted. Sound fair?

Re: Host Design Contest

Do you want something in the norm ? Or something new as far as design features, like new way to mount the batteries, or what. I wouldn't think under $200 would leave a lot of room for off the wall setup

Re: Host Design Contest

You can design it however you want! My only stipulations are that it looks ***y and has good battery runtimes for a 9mm. TEC's are okay, although I personally dont know how to use them, lol.

Oh and for a custom host from ehgemus or mrcrouse or someone 200 dollars should give a lot of room to work with. Different machinists on the forum have different pricepoints though. Just depends.

Re: Host Design Contest

I guess if tec's are ok then it would be more of a mechanical design then. Hmm. Have to put serious thought into this.

Re: Host Design Contest

My main concern is balancing aesthetics and battery life. Thos are the big points I need. If accomplishing that requires various unconventional mechanical designs, so be it. Or if that is just in your vision of the host. If not dont worry too much. The contest will probably not be won because of a TEC.

Re: Host Design Contest

My entry is a big host I designed for multiple diode RG/Y, RGB and 6-8W 450 builds. There is a cut down version for one powerful diode like the 3W blues or the 1W 520.' I have to hook up my art tablet and bring it from paper to electronic. I should have some pics some time next week :)

^^^ ha ha --you used the forbidden 'S' word-- 5EX-- ***y

great idea Isaac- look for an crazy one from me and the winning one from Pierre-- are the 'pros' allowed to enter? they do have an unfair advantage but who does not like some of their creations-- the list is long- so i wont go there..

+5 for ACTUALLY doing something i had only thought about many times.

Re: Host Design Contest

The Pros are encouraged to enter. There may be multiple prizes so that unfair advantages shouldnt be an issue.

Bump! Trying to make sure everyone with even the slightest drawing skills gets a chance to view.
