Battery for Saik 305

Hello everyone, i am building a saik-305 laser, but i keep hearing different things. What battery works with the saik? The 32650, or the 32600. I would prefer the former, but i have a spring on the driver board. Will a 32650 work, or do i have to settle for less with a 32600.

Please reply if you KNOW a certain battery works. Thanks!

I just ran into this too. I think you'll have to go 32600. (Hopefully someone else can confirm, as I don't know if any of the documented Saik builds on the forum have discussed this much, from what I've read.)

I'm working on a Saik too, and got a 32650, which seems a bit too long. And that's with no driver spring. (You technically can cram it in, but the 32600 might fit more comfortably.)

This is why I went with a buck driver and 3 14500 batteries..Just make sure they're AW!

A 22600 fits fine so a 32600 should too. I have one in my 1.75W 445 without having to mod the tail cap or the spring on the original driver board. I have some 26650s on order for another laser but I can try one whenever they get here.

If using a 22650, my recommendation is for the King Kongs. They are very reliable batteries. I won't trust UltrFires again.

KD used to sell a 32600 that would fit with a slight bore of the host, but now they have 32650's that are too long for the Saik...

You can use the stock holder:

Buck driver - 3 X 14500's in series

Boost driver - 3 X NiMH in series/or modify for 3 X 14500's in parallel

Are three 14500's always necessary for a buck, or is it possible to get away with two? (as I've seen folks use bucks with 2x18650's). Aren't 14500's the same voltage?

Correct...

All you need is 2 for a buck, but 3 will also work. If it's for a 7 volt green diode for example, I'd go with 3...

Well, i have been wondering how you DO modify the stock 3x AA battery holder. Can you tell me, cause all the good 32600 are out of stocki so i will be using 3 x 14500s

HOW can i mod my battery pack so i can use 3 x AAs with a boost driver???

Below is for 3 X 14500's in parallel. If you want 3 X AA NiMH cells, then nothing is needed to be done to the stock battery holder...

Take a close look at the battery holder...

You will see that on either end, there are two contacts that are connected, and one that is alone.

All you need to do, is solder a wire in there so that all three contacts are connected to each other. (do this on both ends)

Once you do this, you need to put marks on your battery holder to remind you that you have modified it for 'parallel'. (I just use permanent marker)

And all batteries must be placed in the same direction. All positive at one end, and all negative at the other end.

Finally, you can double check your work by using your DMM to test voltage.

It will have the same voltage as a single cell, but 3 times the capacity... :beer:

Don't forget to change the springs around too. If you instinctively put negative to the spring you would short them out.

Jay where do you get the best price on saik hosts? (If you don't mind me asking) Ive got a couple sinks with no host to match.

Yes roughly...

And if you have your battery holder modified for parallel, then your 3 X 14500 cells will be the correct voltage with 3 X the capacity of a single cell...

If you want 3 X AA NiMH cells, then nothing is needed to be done to the stock battery holder.

Putting three in series, you triple the voltage of a single cell... (NiMH have the ability to put out high current, Alkaline do not. Alkaline are fine for low power builds)

Very helpful! Thanks. Forgot I wasn't using 1.5v AAs, but 3.7v 14500s.
