I've had that thought before, as well as the thought of using a 10th Doctor sonic as a host for a blue...I think that a sonic screwdriver laser would be awesome, though the only question in my mind would be how nicely everything would squeeze into one of those...it would take some inventiveness for sure! Yeah, I've been waiting for a member to try to stuff a diode in those. Since it hasn't happened yet, I suspect the build/clearance is just too tight.

My daughter really wants one though. Perhaps I'll bite and give it a shot.

The one problem that I can foresee is that, even if a diode could be packed into there, as well as a driver, heat-sinking might be tricky, which would leave oneself limited either to relatively low-powered set-ups that wouldn't generate a lot of heat, or you'd have to follow something like 1-3s on/30-60s off, duty cycles with it of you went with a driver/diode arrangement that would be very exothermic at all. XD

I have this model already as I am an avid collector. Main issue is that it's all plastic, horrible heatsinking. Second, there is no easy way to get it open aside from dremeling it in half. I don't see a way of getting it open and it still looking pretty post-op.

I am actually in contact with a local Machinist to get a custom Sonic Screwdriver host made. I am figuring out the necessary measurements now and then I will send them to him and get a quote.

For more info: I plan to have the top part be a modular head for diode+driver, and have it screw on to the body which will be the battery tube. I am going to make it so that you tighten the head onto the body to turn it on.

EDIT: PS, if any machinists on the forum think they are up for it, shoot me a PM and we can talk. Thanks

Theres a gentleman on YouTube that shows his own custom sonics. He quoted me like $70 once for a custom 4th doctor's. Look up Romana II sonic and you'll find a video of a guy taking a thin sonic out of a toolbox looking thing. That's your guy.
