Output Power formula.?

Hi

If i know the max. output power of the LD then how much i will get the output power from the GREEN DPSS and BLUE DPSS.

Example LD max.output power is 1O00mw then how much i will get from the exit window of the BLUE / GREEN DPSS.
HOW TO CALCULATE ?

Or if i know the output power of the GREEN/BLUE DPSS then what is the power of the pumping laser diode power is?.

Any rough CALCULATION or any way to find INPUT AND OUTPUT RATIO ?
thanks

Re: Output Power formula.?

not really... the green SHG process I've read up to 38%+ efficient but that also depends on your setup. A temperature controlled lab laser will be more efficient than a flashlight. I think for green you could be looking at 130-180mw. I As for blue, (473nm or 457nm?) as far a 473 is concerned it is a bout 1-5% efficient. at one Watt in you may only be getting a few mW out. I think the pump source in my CNI GLP is a 1W diode.

Re: Output Power formula.?

Yep, efficiencies vary wildly. Also, the maximum outputs quoted on the warning stickers are meaningless. I've seen lab HeNe's which could never output more than 15mW with stickers stating max output was 500mW just because that is where the Class IIIB rating ends.

Re: Output Power formula.?

Efficiencies are pretty poor because of the crystals that have to convert the longer wavelength light into the wavelengths needed. You can read about them in Sam's FAQ. From the FAQ, the record efficiency for a green is about 12% from wall-power to green output; for a well-built laser you could get 500mW for 2W of 808nm, but it's usually below that because of manufacturing quality and also temperature control. Higher-end DPSS lasers will have temperature control for all components of the laser; for pointers there isn't much control, so their output can be much less efficient. Blues and yellows are much worse and more sensitive. Some blues need to be pulsed in order to produce enough output power.
