I've read a lot of conflicting information about this.
One datasheet from Ophir says it's only good to 5W and only the .1 version (which is 0.1V/W) can read up to 20W.
Another datasheet says it's limited to (input voltage - 2V) and lists a max voltage of +-18V, which would mean it can go up to 16W.

PS: all the datasheets agree you shouldn't go above 4W without a heatsink.

Has anyone ever tried going above 5W on one of these?

My pl808 handheld showed over 5W on my ophir 20c etc...

It should be able to read up to 20W but only if heat sinked properly.

I've gone up to ~5.1W on mine with a +/-9V supply. Do you need to go above 16W? :p

Just made a new model as well which should be able to handle anything you may shine on it. ;)

Glad to know it'll work, thanks guys!

TBH I asked out of curiosity. Haven't even got mine to 2W yet. Will get to 3 when my Dominator arrives :)

Will bookmark the heatsink link in case I eventually buy a kick ass multi diode laser!

I took one up to 11 Watts yesterday for about 10 seconds.
The head was quite warm to the touch after the tests and
the readings under test were not stable due to the heating
of the head.

I did not have additional cooling so I kept an eye on the
readings and the time the Beam was on the sensor.
