Nice find. I'm really tempted to call dibs.

edit: Since nobody has bid on it yet I'm going to.

Boycott that seller for a while and prices will drop. If you really want an ophir head the buy a complete LPM package from ARG. Under $500 for sensor and LPM unit.

That's the same price a member was selling 2 OPHIR 20c
heads for... plus shipping recently.

I can't see why that $250 price is OK for a member to sell
to other Forum community members but it is TOO high from
a total stranger that has no ties to LPF...

Jerry
The two heads sold here i originally forgot about but still you cant compare this to those. If you are referencing the ones Trevor sold then he calibrated them to within spec (within 2% iirc), while the ones sold on fleabay are NOS uncalibrated sensors. If the ones of fleabay were fully calibrated then id see more sense in the increase in price.

Mind you, I bought mine from the same seller for $205 SHIPPED less than 2 months ago. He was "sold out" of these with no sign or possibility of getting more since ophir "was upset" with him selling at such a low price. MIRACULOUSLY he has since dug up roughly 10 of these heads and increased the price over $50. Same sensor, absolutely no difference, yet $50 more......there is the problem sir. iirc he once wanted $275 shipped for these and we told everyone not to buy them. they disappeared for a few weeks and now *poof* they are back but at $250 again. just my thoughts but if we ignore them some more they will go away and then poof back at a lower price if not the $205

I realize you are trying to say how can Trevor sell his for $250 and not this guy but you left out some facts Jerry. Now can you see the problem with this???

Quite right.

Calibration is what makes an LPM an LPM. It is as much a part of an LPM as the op amp. Without the calibration and LPM will not function correctly. Just as if it had a missing part.
The ones from CCLEN are sold as hardware only, uncalibrated. The ones forum members have sold have been recalibrated, or verified.

IMO 250$ for a calibrated head is a good price.
I had to get my Ophir head verified after I bought it and it ended up costing me over 250$.

Therefore forum members selling the heads at 250$ is plenty justified since they have verified the calibration.

Uncalibrated? I've read many times here that cclens' are new and factory calibrated. If that's not true than most people that have Ophirs around here (including me) are basing all their measures on a small black box of junk. Might as well buy a $10 TEC and paint it black.

Are you guys *sure* about this?

BTW: calibrated or not cclen is definitely "playing" the market with these "out of stock" claims.

Default Re: ophir 20c-a-1-y OUT OF STOCK???

Yes they are factory calibrated but since they are NOS that could be 1 year ago or that could be 5 years. They could have sat in a hot box in a warehouse or whatever. We dont know and the ebay seller says "Comes with a 14 Day DOA Warranty, which does not cover calibration if required." Thus if you get a unit that is out of calibration, your SOL. Trevor's sensors were guaranteed to be within whatever spec he calibrated them to (and i know he calibrated them to a stricter window than ophir). the ebay ones 'should' still be within calibration but is it 1%, 4% or 7%, we dont know and there is the chance they are not within spec but only way to tell is test against a LPM that is calibrated.

When i said uncalibrated i meant since they were produced since all sensors are sold calibrated by ophir. Sorry for the confusion bud

Most are on spec, I haven't opened up my personal Ophir head and it's bang on.

Majority are on spec, but there are occurrences where they are off spec.

When I say that they are sold as hardware only I mean that if the calibration is off they won't accept returns

I would say less than 10% of the Ophirs I have were out by a large number.

The accuracy of the 2 heads that Trevor re-calibrated is still
up in the air.
There were no scientific re-calibration numbers supplied...
I wanted one to see how accurately they were calibrated
but since I have a new NIST traceable Coheherent LPM he
decide to not sell me one. This is the 2nd time that Trevor
refused to sell me the OPHIR heads he puts up for sale
on LPF... Very interesting...

You are completely wrong about the OPHIR 20C heads from
that eBay Seller. I had purchased quite a few from him in the
past and they were all within the OPHIR specs and better.

We tested them as we do with all the heads we purchase.
The only ones that have been off calibration were the ones
we purchased from some LPF members that seem to have
been played with.

Once you do a little real business you will understand "supply
and demand" most buyers/sellers know this...

BTW... you are not forced to buy from the eBay seller.
You can easily get a 20C head straight from OPHIR for just
about $700.00 USD.

EDIT

Sorry but that statement is false... Read above... Only a few
members have played with the OPHIR head calibration and
it seems that some of them were screwed up.

Why are you guys are making up and inventing facts that are
untrue...

I stand by what I stated in Post #69..

Jerry, read the description on the ebay listing. This statement is listed there, plain as day:

There have been a number of instances where NOS Ophir 20C sensors read high, but were not "tampered with" as you like to claim.

Anyhow.

The reason I don't sell you Ophir heads is because of the obscene profit you pull in from your Ophir-based LPM's. With the way you treat me and others, I don't want to put money in your pocket by enabling you to sell those LPM's.

I have absolutely nothing to hide with regards to calibration; each time I've sold an Ophir head I've known for a fact it is within 3% accuracy - the spec for professional LPM products.

I know smearing my reputation is in your best interests, but you really need to try harder than that.

In my four years here, I've never left you a -rep. You've earned this one.

I used a NEWER NIST traceable coherent fieldmax to get my numbers. The numerous Ophir heads I have ranged from 6% low to 7% high. All with the original factory calibration.

Most were correct, but not all.

Trevors decision to sell to you was his alone. Do not make presumptuous accusations.

ARG, would you mind posting a full table with the error of all the Ophirs you tested? I'd like to see the data to have some statistics to se if I can trust mine.

Yes... please... read the listing and refer to the quote in Post #69...
We are talking about eBay Seller CLCEN1. The listing clearly states...

his NEW OPHIR heads are not accurate and may be able to use that
excuse to get a refund...he states that any calibration is up to the
buyer. That is to cover the seller's butt.
That does not mean that the OPHIR Heads he sells are not calibrated
accurately.

I know for a fact that all the heads we've purchased from CLCEN1
have been as accurate as the OPHIR heads we bought from OPHIR.

If your statement of 3% accuracy for Professional LPMs is true..
then why are our Coherent FieldMax TO specs stated at +/- 1%
accuracy...

As to the 2nd part of your Post....
I see that you are now stating that you are trying to control
J.BAUER Electronics' finances/bottom line... ROFLMFAO....

Good luck with that.....

Most were correct, but not all.
Here is mine.... show me yours...

All of the OPHIR sensors that I have bought from CLCEN1 have
been within OPHIR specs of +/- 3% or better. The only ones that
were off spec by a larger than expected percentage were the
ones we bought from LPF Members that didn't want them anymore....

Yeah... I'd like to see that full table with the error of all the OPHIR
heads you tested as well.
I'm sure that there are a lot of LPF members with OPHIR heads
that would also like to see your findings posted here..
