What's the best way to figure out the duty cycle of a laser? I'm not sure exactly where I should hold the laser to feel for heat, or how much heat to feel for.

I'm guessing your wondering about your gatling type 450?
I wouldn't run it more than 60 seconds. I see they usually have a brass module and not so sure about the diode's used.
Mostly though I would feel the warmth coming from the front module and you will in time be able to tell warm from hot. Its also a build with those rods so I would not go by how those feel but feel the warmth from the main body.
If you feel the battery area get hot, then I would back off quickly.

Check the specifications for the temperature it is rated to run at and try not to exceed that amount by much. How much higher can you run it before the life is reduce too much, or it dies? Not sure, Cyparagon, Diachi, Encap, H2Oxide, CurtisOliver where are you? These guys often know.

For the ebay gattling and Thor style lasers you generally want to stick to a <60 sec duty cycle. The heatsinking they have usually isn't the best, and they'll be getting really toasty inside prior to the outside heating up significantly.

That would be it! Yeah, the diodes are a bit of a mystery. Thanks for the help! :D
