Spyderz20x6@ No it does not have reverse polarity. It takes up more space and i was going for size with this then every feature.

It is not continuous GND. Why would It need to be.? What diode would you use this driver with that would need continuous ground. The only diodes that needs a continuous GND driver are 660nm diodes that use there Case pin. I have not come across any other diode that would need a boost drive that is continuous GND. If you need continuous ground you most likely would be looking for a Buck/Boost driver since you would most likely be bucking the voltage down for a Red diode.

HaloBlu@ Not sure if you understand what the common issue is with these kind of chips when re flowing them. The problem is not that they Move out of place,that rarely happens. The problem is with these chips is you get alot of Bridges under the chip where you cant see. You must get the solder just right and even if you do your never sure. Most of the time its between the center heatsink GND pad and one of the Pins. Iam waiting for some New Board to come in which i tried something new for the center pad that might work and help.

Ive got pretty damn good at these chips but i want to be able to do more at once then 1 chip at a time.

As another Note I just tried the other night and you can dual these up.:wave: I was pretty happy to find this out. I was about to test up to 2.4A down to 3.5v before my 5A supply could not supply anymore power. It really cuts off at ~4.6A. Iam think these can be dueled up way higher then this down to 3.6v. But iam going to need to find a 10A supply to test that.






Here is a couple pictures of my round Personal X-Boost V7 Original that are rated up to 2.5A. IC Max is 3A.

This is my 21mm board size. I also have them in 15mm,16.8mm,17mm,20mm,32mm and so on......

This is the Original X-Boost which is More powerful then the Mini and is what goes in my laser builds i sell.:)

Very nice work. Looks like LPF is giving osh park a workout these days! I wish we could find a good chip that was more hobbyist friendly for a driver though! I know exactly what you mean about the bridges under the chip. No matter how carefully I reflow or hot air some of these chips, I am usually SURPRISED when it DOES work, rather than the other way around. :(

Plus, if have been doing this yourself, that is,awesome too. I have been working with LeQuack on some drivers and I can't imagine going it alone. It is much easier to figure out mistakes when someone else is looking over your shoulder.

When i First started off to flow these and even for a Good time after i was always surprised to see that it worked and dint need to be re worked then the other way around aswell. To this day i still mess up here and there but i have gotten pretty good at it now. Ive re flowed ~50 X-Boost drivers that i use "The 3A ones" which are the same package chips as these are so you would hope by then you would get it right.LOL

What stinks is these chips are not cheap so if you mess up your next board costs double the price to make.

Basically after i got my pattern down it seems to work every time. I just wish i can do more then One at a Time as in re flow more then 1 chip at a time like i do on my buck drive. I can do 50 of those or even 100 at a time if i wanted too and all will flow perfect more or less.

The space between the pin pads is 0.05 on this chip.
The space between the center pad and the pin pads is Nearly the same. if not the same.

I found that Taping the Chip while you still have the hot air on it will clean up any bridges. Kinda Poking the side also helps alot.

I honestly dont even know how machines do it.

I think in order to flow these chips in the oven DIY style you need to have a custom Flux/Solder paste mix.

Believe me i have tried alot of different ways to do it Except getting a Stencil made which i plain too when i get time.

Another you can try is adding Flux on the bottom of the chip spread it around and then dab it off on a napkin so you can see a very thin nearly no flux left on the chip with the naked eye. This helps Quit a Bit actually.


Its always good to have someone to work with. For me i do everything on my own for the most part. However I have had Extensive help over my time in learning in the beginning and even now i still ask for help. There is Nothing wrong with it.:)

Iam in no way advanced or anything like that. Just alot of trial and Error thats all.:)

The only problem is it takes me 15 minutes to apply the paste for each one! :crackup:

I have to agree that working with someone on designs is much better. I usually collaborate with RHD on any big projects and it really helps to have someone else double checking your work. We will just email the file back and forth fixing and changing things each time until we are satisfied.

Tom you need to PM me your email so I can send you my designs for the tps63010 when I start working on it.

I really do not know how you can make these Lazeerer. I could never make enough to be able to sell them!

Oh selling these.? LOL Iam Not sure on that yet. In Large Bulk of 100pcs maybe or if someone Pm's asking for one sure but to sell these like i do the X-Drive i will have to have a little more free time which does not look like i will have any time soon.

The TPS63010 is the same chip thats on the Flex drive right.?

If so Dont waste your time other then for Red diodes.

The Flex drive cannot boost higher then 1.25-1.3A for a Stander 445nm M140 4.5v diode as a Single driver down to 3.6/3.7V.:crackup: Shocked.? I was.

This whole time so many people have been fouled into thinking it can boost to the full 1.6A down to 3.6/3.7V when really its more like 3.9v/4v. I was also one of the ones that was fouled up until most recent last month when i actually tested one.

THe Only way you can get above 1.3A down to 3.6v is if you dual them. Which will give you more switch play room to boost and a second inductor.

Trust me i was supper shocked to see this aswell. But then remembering it only had a 2A switch iam wondering how i dint catch it earlier.

I made a video showing this but dint upload it as its not my place. There is better chips out there Iam pretty sure of it. Plus that chip is tiny.! I can only imagine DIY re flow on that even though its just aligning it..:scared:

That is right. If you only use one 3.7V cell for the 445nm diode the max current of the Flexdrive is 1.3A. You will need more input voltage till 5.5V to get 1.5A out of the driver.

Oh well time has learn a lot for me.

I set the driver at the max which is 1350mA. Somehow the driver won't deliver the 1.5A current.

Do you have one for sale ? I need one for my build with 3x14500 batteries in parallel which gives me a working voltage of 3.7-4V max.

I tested out many of the flexdrives I used to buy and learned that the hard way. The only way I could ever get the full 1.5amps into a 445nm diode was to use my power supply set to 5.5vdc like Blord said. At 4.2v li-ion cell input it wasn't gonna happen. Kind of semi-tricky advertising since that driver was mostly intended for 445nm diodes since it was supposed to be 1.5amps. On a test load of 3v (red diode!) I was getting 1.5amps from 4.2vdc input, but I could never seem to get that magic freak LPC diode that could run from that much current. :crackup:

Yeah. You really need some High Quality cells to get high currant like 1.8A down to 3.6/3.7v..:)

Ive been using Sanyo 2600mah/2800mah and the Panosonic 3100mah and or 3400mah cells.:)

Those have been my favorite cells in 18650 size.

I wish I could find a 5A Schottky diode in SMB package. But it seems to only be in SMC. Anyone know if they make them in SMB.?

Which will fit on the 20mm and 21mm and Up boards that ive made but nothing smaller.

Here are a couple more round boards that Ive made but this is with my Original X-Boost driver which uses a different chip just like the other round one i was talking about in a previous post.:)

16.8mm. You can see on the top left is your Ground soldering point and on the top side there is also a couple of Ground soldering points.:) Iam a Big Fan of having the least amount of Exposed solder on the bottom side of your lasers and is why i dint do a complete Ring for the ground. Plus if i did that i would not be able to put any Text.

16.8mm Blank Boards so no more having to De solder Stock LED drivers. I will be selling these shortly.:) I will also have some where the Solder Negative pads will be on the top side so the bottom side will have no exposed solder when you solder them to a Pill ring so its a Nice clean look.:) Cajunlasers will also be stocking the blank boards in about 2 weeks:

lazeerer, this driver looks awesome. :bowdown: and im specifically looking for drivers which fit in the back of an aixiz module

are you willing to sell two for maybe 20-25$ each?

if not, do you know anyone else making/selling drivers under 10mm wide (1-1.5A, 4-4.45V, for A-140 455nm diode) which will fit in the back of an aixiz module? searching on ebay has found nothing

nope. im pretty new to this, finished my first build about a week ago, used an 8$ driver for an A-140 diode (the soldering was a bitch), works great but its 15mil wide so wont fit in the back end of an aixiz, just waiting on the torches i bought to arrive so i can put the whole thing in its housing. right now its held together by tape, and a home made copper heatsink built out of some flattened copper pipe
